Can I get pregnant just before or during period?

Hi,

I'm new to this, was referred this by my friend who's currently a mum to a new born baby.

I am trying to concieve, but I've never tried this before so I know nothing about pregnancy or anything. I'd like an advice on this and so on.

I've had unprotected sex with my boyfriend (he's a father of a 2yrs old boy), on Tues 10th, Weds 11th, and Thurs 12th of November. Then my period came on Friday 13th and it stopped on the Monday 16th. Can I get pregnant if I've had sex just before my period started? Whats the high chance of being pregnant? Can I get pregnant before or after my ovulation dates or has it got to be on my ovulation dates?

I'd like to know whats the earliest possible symptoms? I know I've finished my period but I have headache, cramps in my stomach and brown discharge (very light colour) what does this mean?

Hope I would find answers I needed to know. Many thanks.

well im not too sure myself, but from what I read, if you're bleeding while pregnant it's not actually a period - you technically can't have a period when pregnant but some women continue to bleed during their pregnancy. It is possible to get pregnant before and during your period - it's not very common though. Brown Discharge is usually just old blood.

The day after ovulation has a slim chance of being able to get pregnant but its not impossible.

Have you taken a pregnancy test?

Unless you bleed all the way to and through your O date then no. You have to ovulate to get pregnant. No egg, no baby.

The first day of your cycle is catogorized by the first day of full red blood flow. Not spotting. If you had this, then it was your period, and you must mark it as day 1 of your cycle, even if you only have one day of full red blood flow, and the other days are just spotting.

Now, depending on how long your cycles are on a regular basis will determine when you ovulate. The luteal phase is the duration of your cycle between ovulation, and cycle day 1 of the next cycle, and the luteal phase is almost ALWAYS 14ish days. It can be 13, it can be 15-16, but it does not vary. So, if you normally have a 35 day cycle, then you likely ovulate on or around days 20-21. If you have a 42 day cycle, then you ovulate around day 28. Get it?

What you want to do, is count back from the day before the first day of your period to determine what cycle day you ovulated last month.

Now, as for when you can get pregnant, here are the cold, hard facts. When you ovulate, the egg only lives for 24-48 hours. That's it. Seriously. That's all she wrote. ON THE OTHER HAND, sperm can live inside your body in an ideal environment (no douching, having quality cervial fluid) for up to 5 days before they die. Theoretically, you can have sex 5 days before you ovulate and still conceive, or you can have sex 1-3 days after you ovulate and possibly conceive. So the window of time would be about a week during the month where it is possible to conceive.

I highly recommend getting a book on charting, and begin charting your cycles - basal body temperature, cervical fluid, cervical position, OPK strips, saliva ferning, etc. It will help you figure this stuff out soooo much easier than trying to just guess at it.

Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

it has been 6 days now since the last day of my period. So I dont really know, I've not done pregnancy tests yet; a friend of mine and my mum both telling me to give it a couple of weeks before do the tests.

Whats the chance for me being pregnant if I've had sex a couple of days before I start period?

or its maybe I'm trying way too hard for a baby?

It is almost definite that you did not conceive if you had sex just a few days before your period.

im not sure it would be possible to get pregnant a few days before your period, the usual ovulation time is day 14ish in your cycle (so based on 28 days this is 2 weeks after/before) unless your luteal phase is very short and you ovulate late im not sure you could ...but then again everyone is different! i dont want to give you false hopes i would say the chances are very slim that you would be pregnant but this is what these boards are for i would say if you are ttc get in on charting and that'll give you a better idea of when you ovulate and pinpoint the exact date you could get pregnant. and i know how you feel i'm desperate to conceive lol. fingers crossed for both of us, good luck
