OPK's, temping and anything else helpful!

Before I explain, I had a MC Oct 19th (5w4d) and am yet to get FF, so not even sure where I'm at cycle wise so I'm just trying to feel my way through the month until either AF arrives and I can start a new cycle or I get a BFP.

I started temping 2 days ago, but feel super confused still when trying to work out FF charts etc Not entirely sure what I'm looking for on said chart or when recording CM...

So I guess my questions are -

1. OPK brands.. any preferable ones? Or are cheapies from Amazon sufficient?

2. Temping.. what is considered a good rise? Does a rise always mean ovulation? What does a drop mean? What am I even looking for

3. CM. What is good, what is bad and how do I do it?

I figured this was the best place to post all my questions as google is never overly helpful

EDIT: Also, when taking temps, I've been doing it orally, is this best/most accurate?

I use amazon OPKs, and find them great. Iíve never used anything else, and Iím really happy with them so would always recommend them.

Not much help with the other questions though, sorry.

Thanks doggylover. Have found a pack of 20 for £3 so will try them out! Do i use one everyday? And does it need to be at the same time?

1. I use cheapies from Amazon (Wondfo) and they work just fine.

2. A rise for ovulation tends to be a .4 degree rise. While you temp you'll see that your temp fluctuates depending where you are in your cycle. When FF gives you crosshairs it means it detected ovulation. FF uses all the information you give it to figure out your ovulation date, but you won't get crosshairs until your temp rises and stays high for 3 days. Just enter your data and FF will do the rest.

3. CM isn't necessarily bad unless the texture turns chunky or has a terrible smell to it which would indicate you have an infection. Egg white (when it's stretchy) and watery are considered fertile and will help the sperm get to your cervix while others will not be so helpful.

As for how to check: some people will notice on the toilet paper after they wipe and will record it that way. You can also check internally by inserting a finger into your vagina and seeing what it looks like. Please make sure you have clean hands when you do this!

Edit: Vaginally is said to be the best way to temp. I prefer to do it orally, though, so I can't help with that part.

For help in figuring out FF and charting, they have a great (free) course you can take. They walk you through pretty much everything when it comes to charting, ovulation, and your cycle. For further reading there's a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility that's super helpful as well. I started with the book and went to the FF course and it really helped me.

Hope that helps!

thanks CheshireDucky !

Super helpful!

My only other question would be what are crosshairs I've seen people mention them on here, but as I've never charted everything sounds completely alien to me

It looks like a big red + sign on your chart. If you look at mine you can see what it looks like.

As for your question about OPKs: Depending on your body depends on when you start them. I choose to start them a few days after AF stops. If you don't know when you'll O you can start them at any time. Read the instructions as most IC (internet cheapies) will tell you to test in the afternoon/evening. I test around 3 PM and when I'm in my fertile window I'll also test at 10 PM to catch my surge.

A positive test will be when your control line is as dark or darker than your test line. There are usually two lines throughout the cycle.

I use one OPK every day, around the same time if I can (I usually do mine about 11am-12pm). If I get a positive I then do a second one to see when the LH surge ends so that I can try and figure out exactly (as close as I can!) I ovulate.

I have recently read you should only test after 10am as your body doesnít produce LH during the night and early morning.

Have ordered some from amazon... so we shall see! Obviously I'm hoping I won't actually need them and I'll get a instead.. but just incase!

I feel so out of my depth
It's like I've become obsessed.. waaay more than when I was TTC DS. I did no charting, temping, opks etc. Just dtd every other day and hoped for the best
