Colposcopy & Cervical Biopsy Results from Abnormal Smears- How long and delay to TTC?

Hi,

Hope some of you can share some experiences, I had a cervical biopsy 22 Dec 09. Waiting on results which could be 8 weeks from today. I am only visualising getting the all clear following this and want to be TTC again.

Can anyone advise on the following as I would appreicate it as my head is going beserk today:

Has anyone else had this done during TTC stages?
Did you stop TTC as a result?
How long for results?
Did they need treatment? How long before could try again?
Have you had healthy pregnancies since??

Just getting a bit apprehensive on timescales as I am 34 and had 2 losses last year and would really love to be trying for my healthy bubs now as I feel so ready for this.

I had an abnormal smear and had early stage cervical cancer. they removed a small part of my cervix and monitored me for 3 mths, then we started ttc, and they said this was fine so long as I came in to colposcopy ever 3 mths which I did until sept last year. I had an ectopic but this was unrelated to the cervical issues.

I was told in sept it was higly unlikely that my cells would return to normal for at least another 2 years but they werent going to proactively treat me.

Surprisingly after that smear I got a letter to say that my cells had returned to normal and was clear, although I still have to attend every six months.

I am now pregnant and the cervical cells have no bearing on the pregnancy or how I am treated.

I know the results can take up to 8 weeks but I would have thought if you had anything to worry about you would have heard by now. My gp was very quick to phone me when the first smear was abnormal.

Good luck, I have my fx for you. XXX

Well, I had my smear 17th November and got results within 2 weeks. I could only get for colposcopy on 22nd Dec, however my cervix was closed and he couldn't see the neck of cervix so he took two biopsies. The consultant told me it would not affect TTC but in a leaflet it said to wait until normal again. Also asked him about my miscarriages he said completely unrelated.

My results take 6- 8 weeks so I rang today as i am an impatient bugger, also to see if results available over the phone and the secretary said no and also because of xmas and weather the results are delayed and likely to be 8 weeks before now and no she cannot give me any details over the phone. I am hoping biopsy is clear and they just ask me to go back for another smear etc. I really don't want LLETZ again.

I also would love to be trying again now but I know its important to do what ever is right but had conflicting information. So was wondering on other experiences, so are you still TTC now then Kayleigh?

Crypto - did you wait for an all clear?

I am just thinking I may start TTC again now, chances are I may not fall pregnant in the 8 weeks anyway and I can make judgement when I get results. Plus I have read that abnormal cells are slow to change and as you say they can return to normal on their own without treatment. Maybe I am being selfish wanting to stick with TTC we have had a 2 month break then waited again with the colposcopy. Its just the fact the consultant said ok but then the leaflet said to wait, maybe its just in case they were that severe.

I have had this in the past and I have smears every 6 months anyhoo, this was my first abnormal result for about 3 years its just my smear was due in June and I fell pregnant so was a bit delayed this time. But unfortunately had mmc.

The more I read I get the feeling we could be NTNP now and then when I have further results which WILL be an all clear, I would know more then.

i have had abnormal smears for years, had treatment on my cervix too. the most recent smear i had before i ttc showed cin2 changes again, did not stop me ttc as they are so reluctant to do treatment i would have been waiting years. recently gave birth to my daughter at 39+3

Yeah i am still ttc. I also had a m/c and it sparked the need to have a smear. (i hadnt had one and i was 23)

I also asked if my m/c would related to the abnormal results and he said no. He told me that any future colposcopys could be done whilst pregnant and if needed treatment depending on which treatment it was then i may have to wait till the baby was born to have it done.

I still havent conceived yet, but may ask for another doc appointment to confirm if i heard the doc properly

I think you are right, what you have said has given me hope and I feel better knowing I would not be the only one. I think the fact that your docs and mine said not to stop TTC is something. I am going to do it and start TTC again next month, will stick to NTNP this month as I have just kickstarted my diet and the 6 weeks would give me chance to lose a stone before a baby.

Thats really put my head at ease now, thank you so much girls x x

Sorry if I had planted doubts, your doc is same as what my doc said. It was the leaflet which says different. I know some docs may be more cautious but it sounds like its pretty common for TTC to continue.
