I am a PCOS patient and took metformin while trying to concieve my daughter who is now almost 6. I also went back on it after to keep my periods regular and my PCOS symptoms to a minimum. I find that it makes me dizzy sometimes, and if I don't eat anything I get a little sick on my stomach. Also can and probably will give you major diarrhea! But, on the up side, it did regulate me, help me O, and I also lost weight on it as well with a healthy diet! What dosage are you taking?

It did help! Well, I am in a bit of a pickle now with TTC. Let me give you a little of my history. I went on the metformin back in 2003 when we decided we wanted to conceive our DD and I had some test run that showed I had PCOS cause my cycles were so long, sometimes I wouldn't get AF for months, so GP wanted to try me on metformin, even though it wasn't intended for PCOS then and really still isn't now, it is more well known to work now though. Anyway, went on it for about 8 months or so. Nothing happened at first, except my symptoms slowly started to decrease and my AF regulated to the day and hour every month, and I started finally having O pains again! Well, OH was reserve army and they called him up to deploy in June. He left for 9 weeks, came back in August. While he was gone I was still on it and my weight went down, things were going well. And by the time he got back, we were preggers within 2 weeks.

So now on to the present. My DD conceived on metformin is almost 6 now! So last year we decided to give it another go, NTNP is how we said it. If it happens, it happens. But I had gone back on metformin since my symptoms were affecting me so badly! So in Oct I had a VERY light AF, and then Nov 24 I took a test as I was sick all weekend throwing up and thought OMG I must be pg! Sure enough, pos right away, and on the next 4 tests I went out and bought! I was over the moon, had blood done to confirm, and set up and OB appt for the next week. I was not sure when I O'd as I don't chart, and so they did an early scan to date and told me 5 weeks. I should have known then that something was wrong, but I thought that sometimes things just don't show up that early. Well, I went on to get a small baby bump, but my symptoms were decreasing. Not much nausea, things like that. I thought maybe I just got a good one this time cause with my DD and DS I had MASSIVE throwing up and fainting spells. Then Jan came and I was in for my next appt to schedule my cerclage for my incompetent cervix. He wanted another scan to see how things were progressing and when they did it, no baby. Just a sack with nothing in it. It was large, I was almost 11 weeks by then, no signs of m/c starting. So I had a second opinion, those docs at that office were quite rude about the whole thing. It ended up being a correct diagnosis and I went on to have a D&Cbecause I showed signs of infection. Had multiple trouble after D&C, pain and bleeding and clots still in my uterus, had to take meds to flush out. Then by Feb 14th, never had an AF after D&C,wasn't feeling well. Took a HPT and got pos on the 15th! I thought we must have conceived again right after D&C. Well, wrong. Pos tests all week, neg at docs, he said must have been a chemical pregnancy. Finally got AF Mar 9. Now I am going through another sad situation, pos HPT Mon evening, now neg CG digi this morning, and slightly faint pos on the same type of test I took Mon. So must be another early m/c.

Sorry for the book, but the metforming does work. You just have to give it time and put up with the side effects, as all drugs have side effects. Good luck to you!

Oh your welcome hon any time! Appreciate the finger crossing! I know the digi's tend to take more HCG, but for the other test to be faint either after a strong line Mon tells me one of 2 things... shotty tests or there is a problem... But I will press on, wait another year for hubby to return, then hopefully we will be lucky again...

I can't help you, but this doesn't sound safe at all. I'm definitely not an advocate for people taking prescription medication without a prescription or without your doctor having advised you. Are you TTC? This just sounds like a recipe for mucking your system up, to be honest. You might do yourself more harm than good. I'd seriously re-think this if I were you.
