Caffeine & TTC

We've been TTC baby #1 for several months now. I've read the caffeine should be avoided as it may lead to MC. However, when TTC is it necessary to limit my coffee intake?

I drink 2 mugs of coffee before work that I brew at home. Have swapped my diet pepsi for Sprite zero (caffeine free).

Should I be cutting my regular coffee with decaf? I'm going to be a big grump if I have to give my coffee up completely... particularly when its for an indefinate period of time until we get preggo.

Any wisdom you can offer would be much appreciated!!

You could do what my sister does (who is pregnant and drank ALOT of coffee, also wasn't TTC)

She started to wean herself of caffeine by mixing her caf coffee with decaf in they jar and slowly increasing the decaf level in the jar till it was finally all decaf. She didn't notice any difference or have any side effects (headaches etc)

I'm not a big caffeine drinker thankfully. Only drink I have with caffeine in was Diet Coke, which i swapped to Caffeine Free Diet Coke.

Thanks Cheeky! I've had computer troubles or would have replied sooner. I've started to do exactly as you indicated... putting in some decaf with the caffeinated. It's a great idea!!

Try Green Tea!

I've read several articles which indicate that caffeine negatively affects the length of time it TTC. So, although I LOVE my coffee, I switched to half caf and green tea (which hasn't been as awful as I thought it would be).

Speaking of green tea, I read in a book called "Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility" that drinking green tea positively affects fertility! And it has caffeine, but not too much.

Ive had my first appointment at the fertility clinic today. I was given some literature to read and it said :-

At present there is no consistent evidence to show that moderate caffeine intake contributes to fertility problems

Even when you are pg it's ok to have one cup a day

http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/917.aspx...CategoryID=131

I can't find the page I was looking for on the nhs about ttc, but I very much doubt that it's going to be more strict than if you were pg.

I have one cup every morning if that makes you feel any better.

I always have a cup in the Am and MAYBE an ice tea or diet soda with dinner....I think if you were drinking the whole pot it might be of concern...but nothing wrong with that morning cup of joe!

I've always heard the even while PG one cup a day is okay. I usually just have 1 cup in the morning and ocassionally my office goes on a coffee run so sometimes I have another but I often get something else which is caffine free as well.
I'm not too worried & have not stopped yet but would probably stop participating in those coffee runs completly if I fall preg!
Plus avn't heard about caffine causing m/c but i HAVE heard that i can decrease your fertility. So, I might lay off if I'm trying for too long, but as of now i''m too hooked!

I have actually heard that decaf coffee has a lot of chemicals in it in order to make it decaffeinated. So I am not sure it is any better than regular coffee. My best friend drank one cup of coffee all through her pregnancy and had a healthy baby. I drank caffeine up until my last 2ww and haven't had any since.
