Sore throat - why?

I've read that having a sore throat can be an early pregnancy symptom but does anyone know why? I have a sore throat today but only 3 or 4 DPO so I don't think it's a symptom for me (yet!) but I'm curious and can't find the answer by googling.

Cheers!

I don't know, it might be but I would have thought that would mean you catch more colds etc but it seems to be specifically a sore throat which comes up as a symptom.

Maybe the whole 'sore throat' thing is actually a bit misleading and people actually mean having a cold.

'Since immune system is suppressed during pregnancy, common cold and stuffy nose is very common in pregnancy because of hormonal effects on the nasal passages.'

I think that when you're mucus is building up, maybe it gives you a stuffy or runny nose and drains into your throat, causing irritation...???

I noticed that a few of you that originally commented on this post are now pregnant. Was a sore throat one of your symptoms the month you got your bfp?! I find this to be very interesting.
