citalopram

Hi everyone i went to the drs today to inform her me and my partner are ttc. I am on citalopram and have been for a few years as i have chronic fatigue syndrome and it helps my mind to be a bit slower and helps with anxiety and sleep. I asked the dr and ahe said the manufacturers recommend not taking it while pregnant even though theres no research to say it harms the baby. The dr said i should come off it and to go back when im pregnant. Im really scared i think it will cause more stress to come off it i would like to continue taking it. Im on 30 mg but im going to reduce it to 20mg is anyone else if citalopram or similar?

Thanks

Lynda

Not been on citalopram for a long time but I was taking 75mg Amitriptyline I asked my doc about it and said the same thing yours did about your medication. I was scared too as I have an illness I need to my medication for.
I have managed to reduce it down to 20mg. My doc says that they only recommend you continue with your current medication if it is going to cause severe distress coming completely off it.
Try to reduce your dose hun that's my advice. x

I'm taking citaopram and manged to reduce down to 10mg last year by gradual reduction. I take them for anxiety and panic attacks.

I spoke to 3 different Doctors and they agreed that ideally it's best not to take anything, but that a small dose should be fine, and it needed to be weighed up whether I would be worse off if I got pg and I got severe anxiety or if I was better with a small dose to keep me ticking over.

One of the Doctors I saw also told me that if I needed to go up a dose, not to be worried about it.

Apparently they see lots of people who take it during pregnancy and they have all had healthy babies.

I'm stressed after a mc this year, and the whole ttc business, so I'm defo staying on them for the time being.

Hope this helps

I'm on 60mg and really hope the doctor doesn't tell me to come off it... last time I went down to 20 I couldn't even go to the shops because I was too anxious.

anyone find that they have put weight on with this drug out if interest?

I've tonned 4 stone on over the last 4 years, and really struggle to shift it even with diet and exercise.

I've been on this drug for 2 years--just 10mg..does the trick for my panic attacks. My Dr said it was just fine to be on that the ONLY thing she has seen with her patients on this drug are slightly quieter, more relaxed babies. So I am on it and will likely stay on it when I get pregnant.

Yes, I feel like I have gained weight--about 10 pounds.
