Metformin question can anyone help?

Hi im 25 and found out i had PCOS a couple of months ago. (My Dr isnt very sympathetic!! She keeps telling me to come back in another 2 monthhs if i havent conceived then almost rolls her eyes when she sees me every 2 months!)

Anyhoo rant over i have decided after hearing good things about metformin returning cycles to normal i have decided to demand she start me on treatment at my appointment tomorrrow (i wont cos im a chicken!).

How soon would it be before i could start treatment? Are there a lot of tests involved first? And has anyones side effects been really bad?

It depends. For me, I was diagnosed in 2004 (I think) and my first dr was also unsympathetic, but I also wasn't TTC or even thinking about it.

I recently started seeing a new dr that I LOVE! And she's been great. I've been on metformin for about 3 years, now taking 1500mg/day and she said that was good. If I don't get pregnant this month, we are going to start on clomid with the next cycle.

The tests are usually blood tests, and aren't bad or anything, and some drs will do a glucose test too, to rule out early diabetes and test your insulin resistence.

My side effects with the met weren't bad, but you do have to watch what you eat. Anything high in fat or sugar will keep your running to and from the bathroom.

Anyway, I'd be happy to answer any more questions you have.
Good luck at your appt tomorrow.

I take 2000mg Liquid met a day have done for a year ,i dont get side effects from it.But the first few days on it you have to build up your mg's i had a upset tummy but no other side effects.

It has not brought my cycles back ,Nor had weight loss from it .But my acne has all but gone and hair loss has calmed down ,I'm not A typical PCOS suferer though, i dont have lots of cysts and my bloods only just show PCOS but i do have darker hair ( but my family has Greek origins ) and bad acne (I'm 29) and trouble loosing weight. And stupid cycles.

I'm just using met to help my PCOS not cure it as its no cure and doesn't work for everyone but weight loss does work wonders x
