luteal phase and ticker ???

ok so i have a countdown to pregnancy ticker that many other ladies have here and i have a question.....when it asks for luteal phase, i put in 14 because im pretty sure thats what it is, and my cycle is 27 days so that is all in and good.....i am on day 2 of cycle and it says that i O in 11 days.....but i know i O on day 14 so what do i have set up wrong, or have i mis calculated? it is saying i will O on the 24th but day 14 will be the 27th and i know i O on cd14 this last cycle

I have the same problem. My cycle is regular usually about 27 (29 the most) with an LP of 15-16. It always says that I'm going to ovulate on CD 14 or 15 but only occasionally do I ovulate on CD14. I usually O b/w CD10 and CD 13. I don't think you are doing anything wrong. It's just that especially when you have a regular 27 or 28 day cycle, everyone assumes that you are going to O on a specific day....but I learned by taking temps and using the monitor that this is not the case for me. My ticker is always wrong, but I leave it there anyway.

Your luteal phase is mostly set. i.e. it doesn't move much at all whereas ov can move about from cycle to cycle at will (annoying but true! ) So, if you chart you should be able to see a pattern and use that to put in the lp. Foe example, i usually have a 29 day cycle and a lp of 12 days with me ov'ing on cd 17. Regardless of when i ov i can pretty much rely on getting af 12 days after.

Once in a while though, thankfully rarely as the lp is very accurate, it will jump a day or 2 here or there, but on average it stays put.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Those countdown tickers are pretty worthless if you aren't doing something else to track when you O. You should try charting your temps for a few months to determine what you "average" LP length is before trying that ticker. If you click on my BFP chart link below, it will take you to Fertility Friend which can teach you all sorts of things about charting and whatnot.
