Pregnancy test which tells you the gender...

http://www.consumergenetics.com/gend...-pregnancy.php

Just found this by accident (I'm not ttc right now). Has anyone heard of this? The mind boggles.

I can't understand how it's possible to tell the gender of your unborn child by testing your own blood, and if you CAN do it that way, why does everyone rely on scans at 19w?

Is this a joke?

I have actually seen those before, but i wouldn't personally rely on them at all, if i wanted to know, i'd just wait for the scan haha!

Just been reading up on it - apparently the fetal DNA enters the mothers own blood and they can pick up a Y chromosome if it's a boy Although the article I read said it was a very difficult procedure. (but that was in 2001)

I think it's a bit of a scam personally. The test appears to cost $25 but on another page the cost was $150 for the lab test!

I have a cunning plan! If you get a BFP, send me a drop of your blood on a bit of tissue and I'll tell you the sex for 10. If I turn out to be wrong, I'll refund you, no problem.

If 100 people send me their blood and I tell them all they're having girls, I'll probably get about 50% right. 500 in the bank for me!

No I wouldn't rely on them, I've heard of them before and I think they get more luck than anything else.

Wait, I don't get it.. you pay the $25 for the pregnancy test which is supposed to tell you the sex, but then you have to pay $150 for the actual gender testing? I think all the pregnancy tests actually do is confirm your pregnancy (and $25 for two low sensitivity tests, what a ripoff). Lame!

I think you get some extra stuff in there like some kind of instrument to jab your finger with to collect the blood, may be a vial, an envelope to send it in.... doesn't sound like $25 worth though does it?!
