Caffeine while TTC - Bad?


Hi all
I know you are supposed to stay away from excessive caffeine while pregnant, but is there a guideline for how much is too much while TTC?

I think I take in a lot, and so maybe decreasing the amount would be a good thing?

I wonder this too. I have about 5-6 cups of coffee per day, sometimes more. I wonder if it affects chances of conception or not?

I have heard that YES, doing away with caffeine could increase your chances if becoming pregnant! Don't quote me on that..as I just remember reading it somewhere.

But I am addicted. But today, I finally shook my head and told DH I did not want my daily caffeine fix. It felt good!

I heard that you should cut your intake when trying. I used to have 4-5 cans of diet coke a day so I have got it down to 2! I want to cut it out completely soon.

I drink alot of coffee and Diet Coke too, I used to work at Starbucks and my addiction stems from there.
I think I will start cutting down and go from there.

I too take in a lot of caffine - I have tried to cut it down but when its cold a nice coffee is soooo good!!!

BUT I am going to hit tesco on my lunch and buy some de-caff coffee and for all those girlies who love coke, there is a de-caff coke too but I never see it, I just remember from my uni days one of my room mates used to always drink it!! xx

I've also cut down my (massive!) caffeine consumption, just in case. I went from 5-6 cups a day to nothing in summer. Felt awful for just over a week but MUCH better since. Now I have the occasional coffee but never more than one in a day, and only about twice a week.

Just wanted to add something else though: I'm sure I read somewhere that diet sodas can harm conception and they're also quite bad when pregnant. In fact apparently the full sugar versions are less harmful. I'd maybe try to swap them for fruit juice with sparkly water though? Much better for you (and baby) and tastes nicer too.

I drank a lot of coffee but have now switched to de-caff and have cut out my diet coke totally, and feel so much better for it

Yea I'm pretty addicted too, I usually have a coffee first thing then gallons of pepsi max all day while I'm working and studying (from home, at computer all day). I have started gradually replacing caffeinated drinks with herbal teas. I actually really enjoy them - Twinings do variety packs which are great till you work out your favourite ones. I love the blackcurrant, ginseng and vanilla tea!
