How likely is it that...

a person could have signs and symptoms of ovulation and then later find out that they don't? I've always thought I must be ov because around half way through the month I'd get a little lower back pain, increased appetite, dull aches in my lower abdomen and sometimed feel what I think is a sharp ovulation pain. Is it possible for me to experience this but actually find out that I am not even ovulating.

I've had two blood test for progesterone but both came back negative. My cycle length varies significantly, however, and on the first day 21 test, I went on day 21 but my cycle length was 40 days. The second was a guesstimate too, so I could be oving but the tests have just not been on the right day (but I'm feeling pessimistic and thinking that it's just my luck to not be).

Thanks for any advice.x

Im not actually TTC hun, I have just had problems with my AF (very heavy, huge clots etc sorry TMI) so the Dr's wanted to see if I had cysts on my ovaries, if so they would want to do a hysterectomy, however I would rather put up with heavy AF than have a hysterectomy (im only 36), so I needed to see if I was OVing if so I would be sterilised, if not then I knew I would just put up with the awful AF and not have to worry about BC, (why they didnt just send me for scans in thefirst place I will never know, cos now they want me to go for a scan) so I did day 21 tests in May and June and didnt OV in either month, but I did have symptoms, even down to temps in the right places and CM! I dont think that was the answer you wanted to hear but just wanted you to know it can happen!

And now ive been told im probably not OVing and that it may be down to the cysts (if I do have them) I now feel like I want another baby.... bloody madness I tell you...madness!!! LOL!

Hope it all works out for you hun!

Hi hun. I have had a few 40+ cycles and on these occasions i have ov'd on day 21! I was supposed to go for my cd21 bloods on one of these months but i explained that i knew i was oving at that time because of pos opk and so they did them a week later! They just assume that people ov on cd14 and then do the tests a week later to monitor the progesterone. It may be that you are oving later in your cycle which is why the tests aren't picking anything up. Do you use opk's? i would pinpoint ov and then arrange for bloods to be done 1 week later? hope that helps hun.

Your progesterone peaks half way through your LP so it shouldn't be CD21 bloods as that is based on a 28day cycle and OVing cd13/14. You need to have the test done around 7DPO if your LP is 13/14 das long.
