I think the time varys as to when it happens but the sperm has to swim right up to the falopian tube were the egg will be waiting.

But The egg will only be live for 12-24 hours so the sperm has to have met it by then lol hope that makes sence x

I always wonder, a women ovulate from diff ovary each month. One month from left side, next month from the right side.
how do the sperms know which Fallopian tube that they have to swim into.

Check out justmommies.com ovulation calendar
The site shows day-to-day cycle with diagrams.

I'm also kind of ignorant about the specifics, but I'd assume they do both? That's one reason for there to be so many of them. Only a tiny amount get anywhere near the goal

Out of the (hopefully) 60 million+ sperm, only 1000 of them typically make it to the right fallopian tube where one of them will hopefully be successful at fertalising the egg. Wow those are some crazy odds.

We DTD 24 hours before I ovulated and 12 hours after (mostly by fluke as we were really just trying to BD alternating days). Anyway I could tell I ovulated from the right, so I started "telling" the sperm from the day before, and then the next ones in the morning, to go up the right tube lol. And every day I've been "guiding" the zygote along the right path lol. I don't really believe that I'm helping the process along, but I need to do SOMETHING in the TWW before it's too early to test, and it's keeping my mind occupied lol.

There was this awesome program on channel 4 in the uk called 'the great sperm race' the experts on it say that the uterus orients itself to guiding the sperm to the ovulating side.
I know for those in the uk it is available on 4 on demand the Internet player. It scales everything up to human size and has fertility experts talking about what happens - it's really good. Sorry if you are not in the uk .. Maybe you can dl it?

Actually it's the opposite The sperm is waiting for the egg to come out. That's why you gotta have sex before ovulation. And they have about 12 hours to convince the egg to take them in, so to speak After that, if not fertilized, the egg looses its quality and no longer can be fertilized. If fertilized, it will continue traveling through fallopian tube and hopefully implants once it reaches the uterus.
