Hi I'm new to this but have been reading a lot of threads. Me and my husband are trying for baby number 2 soon and I'm due for my next shot in two weeks. after reading all the struggles people have had after depo, I was wondering if there were any with sucess? Cause right now I'm really discouraged .
There's an Official Depo Thread .. It's worth having a peek at hun. I'm TTC after Depo, 6 months post missed shot. I have conceived after Depo in the past, but it sadly was ectopic. Most of the women in the Depo thread are now pregnant. Good luck and I hope you have a short journey
hi ya , it took me almost 2 years to fall pregnant with my youngest after the depo . my cycles where just every where , but i know some one who missed a shot and fell pregnant so who knows hun , everyone different , if i was you tho i wouldnt get the next shot , just so its out ya system quicker , use somthing else for now xx
Hi all I have been on and off the shot for 13 years. I have 3 boys 9, 6, and 2. I had been using depo for about 2 years and off for 18 months before I got pregnant with my oldest son and had been on it about a year and got pregnant with my youngest son a year later. So it is possible it just sometimes takes a while for it to get out of your system. That being said after taking a 1 year break from the shot I began my injections again this past January, I turned 33 in February. My obgyn of 9 years had me giving my shot to myself and told me that no matter when I gave it it would be fully effective in 24 hours. NOT EXACTLY TRUE LADIES! I found this out the hard way sort of. I took my shot the week of ovulation meaning (I found this out by doing a lot of reading about depo over the past month) I should have used a back up for at least two weeks which I didn't. By the time I got my second dose this past April I felt like crap. 2 weeks later I started putting my symptoms together and began counting back to my last period before depo. This was right about the time I started realizing my old faithful form of birh control might nit have been so faithful. I took an hpt it was negative so I called my doctor. The nurse advised me to test again that weekend and go from there. 2nd test faint positive. Didn't know what to make of it so I waited a week and took another that was negative. So I called my doctor back he had me come in for hcg blood test I had a level 1 not pregnant but he wanted me to come in for a consult. By this point I had begun doing my research on depo and I wasn't just looking at the possibility of pregnancy. I was looking up ectopic pregnancy, cervical cancer (which my mom was diagnosed with at the age I am now), uterine cancer, cysts and even the shot itself could be causing some if not all of my pregnancy symptoms. So by the time I go for the consult I have decided no more depo for me after some of what I had been reading. I went in expecting at the very least my doctor would do an exam to rule out all possibilities no he walked in told me it was in my head depo was causing it and he wanted me to continue using it. I argued with him for over 20 minutes as to why I refuse to ever use depo again and finally he gave me a sample pack of seasonique told me to come back in October and he would put me back on the shot. By this point I'm thinking second opinion I have 3 kids that need me and I needed to know that I was ok and nothing was seriously wrong. By this point had I been pregnant I would have been around 20 weeks. I had actually lost 15 pounds but my stomach was as big as it was when I was 5 months pregnant with my other kids and I was feeling movement so did my mom. I told him this he disregarded me again saying it was all in my head. So I got my second opinion this Monday this doctor was excellent he listened to everything I had to say did every test possible exam ultrasound and bloodwork. He ruled out all of the things I was afraid it could be his diagnosis I am too old for the shot and my body was rejecting it. The movement me and my mom felt showed on he ultrasound it's my gi tract so irritated and swollen that it feels like a baby kicking when it is moving around in there. He said his should start getting easier after July when my next shot was due. Both doctors said that I could go ahead and begin taking my pills if I wanted to take a chance of them leveling out my hormones. I was willing to try it and so far it has worked. I am on day 5 of seasonique and I am already beginning to feel better. I felt I needed to share my story because no where in my research did I ever come across that it could be my gi tract and that I was actually rejecting the shot I had put my faith in over the years. As I said before yes you can get pregnant after depo it just sometimes takes a while. So good luck and don't give up!
