What does lots of mid-cycle spotting mean?

Hi All,

So for the last two months, shortly following ovulation, I've started spotting. Last month, I spotted for nearly two weeks before AF came. This month, similar thing (my FF link is below). (Overshare coming up!) Starts out bright pink, then starts and stops, and gradually increased to dark red/brown with clots, more like the end of a period. I also get left side aching/pain with it.

Any ideas what could cause this? My guess was was progesterone but I just got a CD21 test back and it was good. I have a drs appointment tomorrow, but just wanted some ideas. Thanks

I had exactly the same last month - only just stopped spotting on about CD8 of this cycle. Could tell when I got my af as the spotting increased, but it was never like my normal af, it was very light. I presumed that was because I'd already lost some of the blood through the spotting & so there wasn't as much left.

I also had a CD21 blood test last month (whilst spotting) & that came back fine too. When I got the results I mentioned to the doc that I had been spotting for the last 2wks & he just said 'it sounds like all yr periods are cocked up' (very helpful) and he's referred me to the fertility clinic (that's because I haven't got pg after a year though, not cos of the spotting).

Looking at my chart though I'm gearing up for O, and I O'd last month so I don't think it was anything to worry about, as long as it doesn't happen again this month.

Good luck at the docs, let me know what he says

Thanks Kinda weird, isn't it. Puts a bit of a dampner on the TWW too. Hopefully my dr will have some more ideas.

Yeah it does, and last month mine started before O so we didn't as much as normal, I actually thought it was my af at first (didn't chart last month)

Well I saw the dr. My progesterone numbers were 16 and 51. The second one is the one you seem to read about, and 51 is high, so the dr was very pleased (means I def ovulated).

Now the confusing part. She said the cause of prolonged spotting after ovulation is....... progesterone deficency! Hmmmm.

She took more blood for another progest test to see if my numbers plunged quickly after CD21 and gave me progesterone supplements. So we'll see how that goes.

She took more blood for a preg test, and if pos, now or in the future, she said I'd be on the progest supplement for for few months.

So, I'm really none-the-wiser about all this spotting.

That's weird, you'd think the number wouldn't be high on the blood test if that was the case!! I remembered this morning, when I had the spotting last month I had sore nipples the whole time I was spotting (I normally only get them for a few days around O time) - do you get that? This month though I haven't had sore nipples & got a positive opt yesterday so probably o'ing today or tomorrow, hope I don't start spotting. If I do I'll go docs & mention progesterone deficiency. Hope the supplements work for you

Yeah, I do get sore breasts, more near my arm pits, when I have the spotting. It is clearly hormone related, but which ones!?
Bye

Okay.... so my follow up set of progesterone came back, and hadn't dipped.

Something else showed up on the tests too, a Yea!

Early days but very excited
