I've always wondered when the best time is to bd in relation to ovulation -- the day of ov or a couple of days before? I found this interesting info which is based on research looking at the probability of pregnancy in relation to timing of intercourse.
Chances of Pregnancy by Day of Intercourse
-5 days before ov = 0%
-4 days before ov = 11%
-3 days before ov =15%
-2 days before ov = 20%
-1 day before ov = 26%
day of ov = 15%
1 day after ov = 9 %
2 days after ov = 5%
3 days after ov = 0%
Interesting isn't it? If this is accurate it means that bd the two days before ov (and not ov day itself) gives the highest chance of conception.
I am also surprised at the odds of conception given for bd 1-2 days after ov. Maybe this is explained by the possibility that some women release more than one egg over a 48 hour period? Just shows that it is worth getting in some bd-ing even after the initial temp rise. xxx
I think its important to keep an open mind especially as far as this information is concerned. I .e. different studies use different methods for gathering information, different requirements etc.
For instance, the American organisation for Obstetrics and Gynaecology had findings that showed that where conception was the most successful (ca. 36% equally) it happened 2 days before conception and on ov day. They also concluded after ov as practically nil- based on their findings of course.
I have presonally never bothered bd after ov (in fact, practically never done ov day either, lol) but 2 days and day before ov has reaped dividens for me. Also, i only did it a couple of days each cycle- 3 at the most. So dont despair ladies...it will happen!!
