Abnormal biopsy, HSG and LEEP... trying not to freak out.

My last pap came back abnormal, so on Monday they performed a colposcopy and took a biopsy. The nurse called today to say the biopsy came back with a moderate abnormality and he does want to perform a LEEP to remove the abnormal cells.

I only have one fallopian tube and have endometriosis, so she said he wants to do a HSG first to make sure my other fallopian tube is open. I didn't fully understand the connection. After she said pre-cancerous cells, I was having a hard time following along. But it was something about having scar tissue from the LEEP that could make an HSG more difficult, so he wanted to go ahead and do that first....

So then after the HSG, he will do a LEEP to remove the abnormal cells.

I am on CD15 (still haven't ovulated) so he wants to wait until the beginning of my next cycle before doing the HSG.

Overall, I'm just trying not to freak out about all of it. Any advice or experience with an HSG or a LEEP or any of that would be very appreciated right not...

I got my HSG done last month, its not as bad as people say it is. You will have a little cramp and spotting after the procedure but nothing to be worried about. Lots of baby dust to you love

I've been through both and doc said they won't affect TTC... Just last week I had my first pap smear and didn't have any abnormal cells! Yea!!! So the procedures did what they were supposed to. With both there was a little cramping, but not even as bad as AF cramps and a little spotting. Good luck!!!

I had a LEEP almost 5 years ago now. Same thing, abnormal pap, pre-cancerous cells. The Dr. did a really good job, it was completely painless for me. I never have any pain during or afterwards. You will spot for a bit but it's was no big deal for me. It can be a scary time, but all worked out well for me. My paps have all been normal since and I have successfully had DS. He is not 18 months old. One thing to note to save you worry when you get pregnant in the future, your cervix may be shorter than the average woman after the surgery. they measure it at ultrasounds. mine always measured shorter but didn't affect anything. i spent months worrying about it, but turns out i had nothing to worry about! carried DS to full term with no problems. it won't affect your fertility.

My HSG is scheduled for this Friday the 23rd. The doctor told me to take 800MG of Ibuprofin before coming.

My LEEP is scheduled for Wednesday, December 28th. She said she is calling in a prescription for an Ativan to help relax me for the procedure.

I'm just glad this part of it will all be over soon...

I had a leep recently and everything worked out fine . I was put to sleep for the procedure but no pain afterward . Pap was clear after the procedure as well . For those who have had the leep procedure , how were your cycles afterwards . My Dr. tells me everything im going thru is normal but I would like to hear from someone who has actually went thru it . Before the procedure I had a normal 28 day cycle and now my cycle is 22 days . Is this normal ? Did your cycle ever go back to the way it was before ? AF is also lighter than before , Is this normal ?

i myself didn't notice a change in my cycle, but i was on BCP at the time. give your body some time to regulate itself again. also, a 22 day cycle is still normal, nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks everyone for the support. The HSG went well. My right tube is open and everything looks good.

The LEEP was last Wednesday and wasn't too bad. No major pain or bleeding. Plus, my OBGYN said we only had to wait 5 days to start trying again, so that's good

Lawyer Chick - sorry to hear about that. I found out I had enometreosis back in 2003 - it's not a lot of fun. they completely removed my left fallopian tube b/c of it at the time. You still have a good chance of getting pregnant even with only one tube, so don't give up.
