Views of temperatures/adjusting

Hello

So I've read all the guidance on temperature taking etc and wanted to get your opinions.

I get up every morning at 5.30am. This is the time I've set as my default in FF for my temping time. However I often wake up (get woken up!) during the night. Sometimes this is more than 3 hours before my get up time (eg 1am) but more often than not it's closer than that (eg 3am).

What do you think is best in the latter situation? Do I:

a) use the temp at 3am (unadjusted) (despite this being before my normal time)
b) use the temp at 3am but adjust it (ditto)
c) temp again at 5.30am and use this (despite not having 3hrs sleep before)

The TCOYF book seems to suggest a), assuming this temperature is after 3hrs sleep: it seems to say that your temperature creeps up AFTER your normal time (ie if I woke at 6am I should decrease it by 0.1F), but doesn't mention adjusting it for waking up early. Also, adjusting it from 3am to 5.30am seems an awful lot - that's 0.5F!! But c) also seems wrong because it's less than 3 hours sleep.

Argh.

Please don't tell me just to get a full night's sleep: my toddler doesn't let me!

Thanks.

Hiya Britgirl
I would say take your temp at 3am and set this as your default time. FF says all you need is 3 solid hours of sleep.

I have the same problem as you- I rarely get a full nights sleep. I started temping this month so it's really just a 'test month', I'm trying to get into the habit of things so I'm trying not to get too hung up about it.
I tend to wake up about 2.30 am and 5.30am ish so I take my temp at both times and then decide in the morning what to do! I understand it's better to take it at the same time every day,so I tend to stick with the 5.30 reading even if I haven't slept properly. This morning I kept tossing and turning and felt too hot, but I still took my 5.30 reading. I've also read that your temp can fluctuate a lot pre O.....I guess just decide on one strategy, try it for a while and hopefully you'll get into a more reliable sleep routine.
GL!

That's a good idea... Not sure how DH will react to an alarm going off then, but never mind!

Glad that someone else decides in the morning which temps to use I often put in future temps as well to see what would happen if I got a certain temp over the next few days!! Hours of fun I'm so keen to see a lovely textbook chart that the temptation to change strategy every day is pretty big...

If you wake up before 3 hours after a full nights sleep, then all you need is at least another hour. Your temp may be a little bit higher than usual, but it's close enough. Like if you take your temp at 6am, but woke up at 5am to use the restroom, it should be fine because you got another hour of sleep. Hope that makes sense! xxx

The way I understand it is as long as you don't actually get up and you just wake to turn over or for a short while and fall back to sleep to take it at the normal time.

The one I'm always confussed about is if you normally go to bed at say 11pm and take your temp at 7am but one day you don't go to bed until say 1am and then wake at 9am would you need to make note/adjust the temp? or because you've still had the same hours of sleep wouldn't the temp be fine left as it was when you took it?

Yes you'd need to adjust it. It doesn't matter what time you go to sleep or if you get 5 hours one night, and 12 the next. xxx

All the missed out temps are from when I had a horrible stomach flu bug last week - they were up in the 99s!
