DH has low testosterone

Well, DH had a physical done. We just got his blood results back and his testosterone level was only 213. Normal is 300-800.

So now, I have high testosterone and he has low testosterone. Ugh. I am sure when we get our first FS appointment, the RE will want him to do another SA. The last one was actually pretty good with a high count, but lower motility. I hope it wasn't a fluke.

Has anyone dealt with low testosterone in men before?

He is pretty upset and embarrassed about it. Poor thing.

I've noticed you on a couple other convos related to your DH. How does the testosterone relate to his SA results, do you know? Can that affect his motility? (I know you said his was a bit low). I think my DH may have low motility and testosterone too, though related to meds he takes.

I'm sorry your DH is upset, but I know how you feel. My DH is so sick of being let down and "failing" that he's about ready to be done with the whole business. We have an SA scheduled for next week, so we'll get some answers soon.

Good luck to you!

Low testosterone causes low sperm count, low motility, and a low libido. My DH has always had a low sex drive so he always suspected he had low testosterone.

His motility only contained 23% rapid moving sperm and 17% slow moving. But his count was 144.8 million! So I don't know. I hope the SA wasn't a fluke. I think a SA is more prone to being a fluke then a blood test. Do you think blood tests can be off too? I am wondering if his SA was as good as it was because he was taking Mucinex at the time......

I hope your DH's SA comes out ok!!!

Well, based on that info, and what we already know, DH's results will not be good. He's also always had a low sex drive, but he's also taking a medication that is known to cause low count/motility, and he requires it to live, so he can't go off it (kidney transplant). Basically we're hoping he has a minimum of 5 mil, which is the standard number required to do an IUI, every thing else we could never afford. At least we know what the cause it though. I feel for you not really knowing why things are low for him. Have you researched anything that could help raise his testosterone? I know I'm planning on putting DH on zinc and saw palmetto if his dr will approve it.

I just found out so just starting to research. But some things might be harmful to take while TTC. So I told DH to go see an endocrinologist who would be able to help him.

I also just looked online and SA's can be inaccurate. Especially the cheaper ones...which he had (his SA was only $83). I am sure the RE will want him to get a more detailed SA once they find out he has low testosterone.

That sucks that DH has to take meds that affect his swimmers. I am sorry about that. And I hope he has at least 5 million sperm as well. Infertility treatments are so expensive. If I found out i had to do IVF, I probably wouldn't do it. I mean, I could probably save up and pay for it....but it isn't 100%. Ugh, this is so frustrating!
