Anyone tried The Fertlity Diet ?

I bought this book last month: The Fertility Diet by Jorge Chavarro and Walter Willet. Its basically about cutting out bad fats and eating good fats, the right protein etc. Now I have been trying more or less 6 months now so i am looking into anything I can be improving. As I am slightly underweight (bmi 19, aiming for 20-22), I haven't been giving much thought to diet, also my cycles are more or less regular and I seem to ovulate normally, however, any help must be positive.

SO, I don't have a great diet. I eat far too much chocolate, and I tend to eat a lot of frozen things. Its just laziness, i can cook really well, I just haven't been bothered. I know I don't get enough protein either which is supposed to be really important...

So this is what I am going to do this cycle (I am CD 2 today)

- Have decaf green tea
- Cut out chocolate
- Cut out trans fats
- Bring on the good fats
- Cut out tuna and high mercury fish
- Cut out sat fats (supposed to be terrible for fertility)
- Have wholegrain in bread, pasta rice etc
- Only have cakes etc if I know they are super healthy or I have made them myself
- Buy organic fruit/veg
- Drink loads of water

i haven't read that book yet, i did read one called the baby-making bible by emma cannon though and it's based on chinese medicine and is so interesting! it had a lot of the same advice by the looks of it cut out sugar, saturated fats, eat plenty of protein and iron etc i'll still buy this fertility diet one though because i find the nutrition stuff interesting! i got diagnosed with PCOS so i'm now following a PCOS diet - no sat fats or sugar, balanced protein and carbs but i don't know if it's working yet i have cut dairy out of my diet so i'm hoping that will make a difference

i found some recipes for fertility smoothies online, you could have one of them a day? at least one of them had extra protein in it because it's really important to have it. i don't think i get enough protein either so i have been eating LOADS of beans and lentils

oh and in all of the books i have read so far about diet/nutrition when TTC it has recommended going organic to avoid the pesticides and growth hormones that are in normal foods so i've done that and i really hope it makes a difference! i got my first box of organic fruit and veg delivered on friday

and i have two dessert spoons of ground flaxseed, pumpkin seed and sunflower seed in my muesli every morning along with about half a teaspoon of maca powder. i add maca and the ground seeds to my cooking too, and from today onwards i will be adding a scoop of wheatgrass powder to my cooking too

i am becoming really interested in the food side of it and i'm enjoying making a lot of changes to my diet that will, fingers crossed, be so good for me in the long run.

Hello there little seal! Do you like ghibli?? DH and me are big fans, especially of Miyazaki!

I am also going organic! Tomorrow I am going to stock up and get what I need, I will also plan my meals. I won't cut out all sugar, just will try not to go mad. I will edit my first post to add some things, like I want to go for wholegrains and nuts. Lets keep in touch and see if diet helps us XXXX

i've been planning my meals as much as i can and i didn't have any chocolate or crisps for over a week, i had some dark chocolate at the weekend but it was dairy free and because it's dark it's not easy to just scoff loads of it at one sitting!

i have been loving this website - http://www.natural-fertility-info.com/

yeah let's keep in touch about our diets! anytime i start a food/diet related thread or a thread about a TTC book no one replies to it

Great, you can help me keep on the straight and narrow!

Last year, before starting TTC, I was on a really strict diet. It drove everyone mad! I wouldn't eat gluten or lactose, I wouldn't do that again! But I do want to have a super healthy diet, its going to be hard, I am stuck in old habits at the moment. I will report back tomorrow after doing my organic shopping! XXXX

Diet is an important part of baby-making & carrying !!! So i will stalk this thread . I have been a bit off the healthy wagon recently ... Still eating healthy but not OBSESSIVELY so like i generally do. I don't have white pastas rices , breads etc. Try to avoid bread althogether actually & use cous cous in place of pasta/rice. Lots of veggies / salads . Swapped chicken and red meat for Quorn . It is high in protein low in fat. High fibre cereals for brekky or 0% total yoghurt with raw fruits . Swapped sugar for Agave Nectar . Cows milk for rice milk , use Rice Dream with added calcium & Vit D. If busy willl use a lot of Tesco meat free range . Been slack with the amount of fruit/veg i have had the last few weeks (i stopped running due to an injury) We try to eat salmon twice a week . A little cheese in my diet . I also take juice plus+ https://www.juiceplus.com/nsa/content/Welcome.soa

Hi everyone! I have looked into this diet too! For totally unrelated reasons I have been eating clean for the last month and half. It is pretty much the same thing as the fertility diet, only it's not really a diet, just a different way of eating/looking at food.a friend first introduced me to it. I then bought the book "eat clean diet recharged" by tosca Reno to get me started. Basically it's eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. So whole wheat pastas and breads, fresh fruits an veggies lean proteins like chicken, lean beef or turkey and fish. And chocolate too, just any dark chocolate 72%cocoa or higher. I eat a piece everyday! I started to just get that flat belly I've always wanted, which is working by the way, but I also was hoping it would help me in the ttc area as well. I have been ttc since last may with no success thus far. Hoping to have a bfp to show very soon with my new healthy eating clean lifestyle. one thing to note, my follicular phase has seemed to lengthen from 10-12 days to 13-14 days since starting this diet. I do believe that it is from the diet and maybe those extra days are giving the egg more time to mature.

thank you girls, it sounds great about your diets, I will reread what you have said and take it all on board. I haven't actually started yet as the shop I need to go to is a bus journey away and I haven't been able to go, hopefully I will go tomorrow. I really want to start as soon as possible I am already on CD 4! (I know it can take many months though of better eating to get a BFP)
