I feel like crying - DH SA

I just got back from my first unmedicated IUI (no ovulation problems). DH had to turn in a semen sample for it today and obviously they tested it. 2 weeks ago when he got his SA done, his count was 53 million which is normal but motility was only 28% (>49% is normal) and his rapid progression was 6% (>24% is normal) but also he did abstain 7 days (much to my disapproval) which I suppose could have caused the low motility.

Today, when I went in for the IUI, DH had abstained for 2 days. His motility was good at 54% but his sperm count was only 12 million!!! My Dr doesn't know why it changed so much but that is extremely low.

Post prep data was 9 million sperm and 74% progressive motility. The motility is good but I don't think that 9 million is enough.

The Dr said he has to go to a urologist because he has 2 kids already, both who were conceived very easily, and now we have been TTC 18 months with no success. All my blood work came back normal as did my HSG.

The Dr said as long as I ovulated good this month (will do a day 21 check) he will do another unmedicated IUI next month if I don't get a BFP. He said hopefully either I get pregnant with the IUIs or the urologist finds something fixable with him because our only other option if not would be IVF.

When I asked the Dr our chances this month, he said probably around 25% - the average for a normal healthy couple...our chances before this were even less...so great...these last 18 months, we have had sucky chances and didn't even know it.

The kicker to all of this is, the last 18 months I had to hear my DH say over and over again how he already "proved" his sperm is good and if there was any problem, it has to be with me. I felt horrible all this time and the problem is not even with me!

Has anyone gotten pregnant either naturally or through IUI with a low motility or sperm count?

I feel like I am never going to get pregnant now.

My cousin had a low mobility and sperm count. He and his wife had conceived their first child with no problem, but a year and a half later something seemed wrong. They tried for nearly a year before he went to the doctor. He saw a urologist and was able to go through a small outpatient procedure to fix the problem...6 weeks later his wife announced her BFP!!!
They just welcomed a beautiful baby girl
Please don't give up hope....it will happen!

Who knows. DH may have had this problem when he conceived his two kids but just didn't know about it because the lucky sperm got to the egg. My Dr said it could be a vein blocking off semen from being produced...which is an easy fix...that is probably what you are talking about.

Thank you for the story. I was just feeling so down because I didn't expect this but I have a 25% chance this month so I'm going to keep hopingforit!

GL hun!! My DH had the same problem & had surgery but our luck it didn't work.. His Count is usually between 20ml-14 & the Dr. said hes had people get pregnant as low as 10ml... He reassured us that is it still possive to get pregnant without any meds but me being hard headed went ahead and started clomid to boost up our chance!!

It will happen FXed

Aww hoping I am sorry. Has he been in a hot tub or anything lately? You know..that can kill the spermies. (Or wearing tight underwear, etc.) Also I read that if the guy doesn't have a "release" that there actually is a chemical produced in the testicles that kill off the sperm...that's why you are supposed to DTD (or have him have some sort of release) before you are BDing around O time.

My Dr said it is still possible for us to get pregnant with his sperm being as low as it is but the chances are less. Dr won't give me Clomid as I am ovulating properly. It is just a problem with DHs sperm which is why he called into me yesterday and wanted to start IUI as soon as possible.

Hopefully it will happen. Sending to you!

He had a shower this morning and he used hot water but I doubt that could cause such a drastic drop. He does wear tight underwear and I've told him not to before but he just doesn't listen. I told him that if I don't get BFP this month, he is going to make some serious changes including wearing boxers, taking a vitamin especially for men (he takes a regular one now), using preseed, and anything else I figure is necessary. The Dr mentioned IVF if the IUIs fail and I don't want to do that if I don't have to so we are going to do whatever we can to raise it naturally. The Dr did tell us to BD tonight as it can increase the chances. I'm just really really hoping that even with the low numbers, we get a BFP this month. It only takes one, right?

"IF" AF shows, that will be the first thing we do! I swear I've been trying to get him to wear them for ages but he out and out refused saying it wasn't causing any problems. Now I have proof! If I have to, I'll hide his tight underwear.

The longer men abstain this higher the count will be but the morphology and motility will start dropping the longer they abstain.
with 9 million and 74% motile I would say you have a decent chance I have heard success storys with as low as 1 million .
