Autoimmune Diseases with Pregnancy

Hello Ladies!

Is there anyone out there suffering form an autoimmune disease and has had a BFP or is TTC?
I have had on and off knee joint swelling and stiffness with some mild pain for the last six years now. I was tested in 2008 for Rheumatoid factor and it came out negative. I conceived in 2010 May but lost the pregnancy in November of the same year . My Gyno claimed the loss was due to malaria, which i now doubt after looking at the factors at that time. I guess i was too stressed out and in shock to ask a lot of questions. From the ultrasound report that I received, the age of the baby was shown as 20weeks 2 days, yet I was 24 weeks 6 days into the pregnancy. I interpret that my baby died at 20weeks 2 days. By the time i had the ultrasound that eventually shoe=wed the baby was dead, I was not exhibiting any malaria symptoms. I find it very difficult to believe that a pregnant woman can have malaria in her system and show no symptoms for over 4 weeks, considering the lowered immunity during pregnancy.
Following the on and off knee joint issues i have been having which have now sprat to my elbows, wrists and ankles, I decided to see a rheumatologist since I suspect lupus which i feel could have led to the pregnancy loss.
He sent me to have a number of tests, which included the rheumatoid factor, lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin tests. All the 8 results of my blood work are negative, yet my symptoms are worsening.
I have an appointment with my doc on the 11th April( Wednesday). He will look at the results and advice on the way forward.
Anyone who has the same health issues and has managed to bring it under control? I am WTT in December/ January and I want to have this joint thing under control by then.

Hi Mrembo, sorry about your loss, just read ur post. I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder after 7 miscarriages in 2008, with some treatment (baby aspirin & Clexane injections) still had 4 more miscarriages but last year i had a bfp in April, d consultant at the recurrent miscarriage clinic included steriods to the treatment. I was given baby aspirin, clexane inj (blood thinners) & Steriods. the pregnancy went to full term and i have a healthy boy.

The autoimmune disorder is called Antiphosphilipid syndrome also called APS. I has to do wit a blood clotting condition. I hope your doctor can help or refer you to a specialist hospital. My doc cld not pick up dis condition frm d various tests dey carried out until i was referred to d Recuurent miscarriage clinic. I wish u all d best, carry out ur own research & ask ur doctors questions.

There's always a solution to every prob...keep us posted please
