There are lots of threads on here about what birth control can do to your cycles. Some people are lucky and get their regular cycles back right away, others get irregular cycles. One time when I went off bc, I did not have a period for 3-4 months. This time they seemed to go back to normal. I regret ever being on bc

And that I have minimal chances of conceiving naturally or even having children, So I went on the Pill for 18 months and came of at the end of November 2011 which I then had my first bleed end November which I believe was a withdrawal? Anyway after this I bled early January 2012 and again mid February Making my last to cycles 49 then 40 days which I assume Ovulation was around day 20ish? So after my bleed in February I started to use Clear Blue digital ovulation tests and I got a smily positive on an LH surge on 7th March 2012, And ive not had a period since, Some pregnancy symptoms, Ive gained half a stone in weight and have firm tummy and what looks like a bump appearing So I guess my questions are If anyone could help please? Would be very much appreciated:

Could I be pregnant Im on Day52? Would a bump be showing as Nurse told me on the phone I would be about 7 weeks pregnant today? If an LH surge is detected on these ovulation test does that mean that hormone forces my ovaries to ovulate meaning I have deferentially ovulated and have a strong chance of being pregnant right now? Did anyone else have similar issues in getting pregnant with the condition? And if my LH surge was on day 15 does this mean my cycle would of been around 30 days this time rounds, resulting in me being 3 weeks Late? And lastly if you have an hormone imbalance due to PCSO can this affect home pregnancy tests picking up the HCG hormone as effective? I know its a lot to ask but im worried and find it so hard to get pregnant is making me devastated, would appreciated your time and support,

I hav pcos and mine is caused by elevated testosterone

U can use ovulation tests with pcos

Do u have and cb digi opk's left? If so use one if u get a smiley face u are more than likely pregnant!

Has ur doctor prescribed metformin? Majority of women with pcos have periods while on this, I got put on it and first month I got pregnant and I'm not 9 weeks 4 days.

Good luck and any questions just ask x

I have PCOS and all the little cysts can cause false LH surges which is why some say not to trust the OPK unless your temping too. I would go in for a blood pregnancy test this will tell you for sure whether your pregnant or not, if its negative they can give you provera to start your period.

No I didn't hve any bother with home urine tests.

The cysts on ur ovaries can produce false lh readings not hcg

Hcg comes from the placenta so therefore u should never get a false positive with them because of PCOS

First...metformin is NOT for high testosterone levels. It helps regulate blood sugar and helps to normalize hormone levels. If you're overweight especially...it's awesome stuff. A nice side effect is that people (I know I did) usually lose weight on metformin without even trying.

If you got two lines on a pregnancy test....even if one line was lighter...you are most definately pregnant, or seeing an evap line. PCOS DOES NOT cause false positive pregnancy tests.

It CAN however, screw with results on OPK/Ovulation tests. I have NEVER gotten a positive OPK....some women get constant positives.... Your best bet is to chart your basal body temperature so you can CONFIRM ovulation...as getting a positive OPK doesn't mean you FOR SURE ovulated....it is just detecting a peak in the hormone that tells your body that it SHOULD ovulate.

Good Luck!

Benefits of metformin (glucophage)

Lowering of insulin, testosterone and glucose levels.

Quite a number of studies indicate glucophage reduces insulin, testosterone and glucose levels -- which reduces acne, hirsutism, abominal obesity, amenorrhea and other symptoms. In one study conducted at Virginia commonwealth university, 24 obese PCOS women were given metformin or placebo. The 11 women who received the metformin experienced a reduction in insulin levels, which slowed the activity of an enzyme in the ovaries that stimulates excess production of testosterone. As a result, testosterone levels also dropped.
Glucophage appears to do the same for non-obese women, according to a study from the university of medical sciences in Poznan, Poland. 39 PCOS women were given glucophage for 12 weeks. They has improvements in insulin, testosterone, hirsutism and acne.

Restoration of the menstrual cycle- a number of studies have shown that menstuation can be restored in many women with PCOS. For example in a study at Jewish hospital in cincinnati, 43 women who were not havin periods took glucophage and 39 of them resumed normal menses. In another study at Jewish hospital 11 teenage girls with PCOS were put on metformin and a high protein, low carbohydrate diet - 10 of the 11 girls resumed regular periods.

Weight loss and other benefits

Metformin MAY contribute to weight loss in some diabetics. However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilisation, lowering cholesterol and improving energy.

Treatments for other features of PCOS

Raised androgen (male sex hormones) metformin reduces the abdominal findings of raised androgens and decreased sex hormone binding protein in the blood. But it can cause considerable gastrointestinal upset-particularly diarrhoea - that's somewhat improved by reducing the daily dose

Improved chance of pregnancy

A study of 48 women with PCOS and infertility was conducted at the Baylor college of medicine. They were first given metformin and 19 of them resumed menstruating and showed indications of ovulation. But 10 required clomiphene in addition to metformin in order to show evidence of ovulation. 20 of the 48 (42%) became pregnant. However 7 of the 20 miscarried.

Reduced risk of miscarriage

Another aspect of PCOS related infertility is the tendency for repeated miscarriages. A study from the hospital de clinicas Caracas in Venezuela looked at 65 women who received glucophage during their pregnancies vs 31 who do not. The early pregnancy loss (1st trimester) loss rate in the metformin group was 8.8% as compared to a 41.9% loss in the untreated group. Of those women who previously had miscarried, 11.1% of the metformin group miscarried again, while 58.3% ofthe untreated group again miscarried.

Hope this information helps some girls

As for NOT lowering testosterone that was why I was put in metformin by my gynaecologist and GP they both agreed it would lower my raised testosterone levels.

I took this info into my GP and he confirmed it was all right.

I'm only trying to help
