Scared to take agnus castus!

I guess its cos I feel like i'm tampering with my cycles (even though I HATE my long cycles!)

How quickly does it start working? How does it work and is it completely safe?

Thanks ladies x

I have heard good things about it however i used it last year. I miscarried twins during the time of using it. I dont know if that had anything to do with it..but i wont use it ever again just in case.

I am in the same position. I have just ordered some online but I am not 100% sure I am going to take it yet. I bought the tincture, as I heard it absorbs quicker. I am fed up with long cycles and am desperate to shorten them somehow. I am going to the doc next month so not sure if I should just wait til after that and see what they say

Oh and it can take 3 months to start working, it varies. It is meant to be completely safe, but I still worry

it takes up to 3 months to work but I have read that some people it helps the first month. The doctor will not give you any opinion as its herbal and not medicine. I already asked the dr and she said if it has no chemicals in, it wont hurt your body.

Just be prepared that it might not make your cycles shorter and it could make them longer. Not trying to put a downer on it but it made my cycles longer than before I took them. But there is more positives about Angus Cactus than there is negatives.

lots of to you all xoxo

Hi SamiF, how long were your cycles before and after taking it? Did you take it to shorten your cycles?

I just want it to regulate my hormones and make my usual 34 day cycle come back. My last cycle was 45 days, not fun

I was trying to shorten my cycles are normally 6weeks, I started taking them in Feb this year and have still not had a period to date, I am currently over 3 weeks late and no sign of AF coming. have not done a pregnancy test for a week now but dont want the disappointment of another neg I can only put the delayed AF down to angus cactus, as although I have long cycles they are never irregular. But it might just be a coincidence or my body playing tricks on me

Hope this helps xoxo

You aren't supposed to take it while preggers so this might be the reason you miscarried. I'm so sorry for your loss, though, and I'm not a doctor so it could have been other reasons too.

I use Vitex (agnes cactus) now. I've been taking it for about 3 months as directed and it seems to have helped regulate my cycles. I MIGHT be pregnant now, but I really don't know, so I've been using it less often in case it hurts the baby.

I started Vitex while on Yaz because I wasn't getting periods. Had a 66 day cycle from late Oct 2011-Jan 2012, then a 77 day cycle from Jan 2012 until my last period Mar 12 2012. I quit Yaz in March. This cycle looks like it'll be 40ish days, if I ever get a period (hoping NOT! would rather have a ). But 40 days is MUCH improved from 66 and 77 day cycles.

Some women don't use Vitex post - O incase they turn up preggers - I did, but have stopped since possible implantation bleeding. My period I did get on Vitex was a good lining - my periods on Yaz started out medium flow then tapered out after 3-4 days. This one was HEAVY flow and lasted 5-6 days.

Other women just quit during their periods (or quit from O-day until their periods stop, then restart it). Not sure the reasoning behind JUST quitting during a period, but thought I'd put that info up.

It's NOT SAFE for pregnancy, so that's the most important thing to remember. For me personally it helped me O the month I quit Yaz, I believe (I was charting BBT, didn't get a pos OPK but had been testing since CD8 and I O'd CD25....was getting fed up with the damn things). It also helped shorten my cycle. If I don't turn up preggers this cycle I will continue using it and hope my cycles go back to my pre-BC average of 30-33 days.

Vitex is very mild compared to Dong Quai and some other supplements. If that's any relief. As long as it's not taken DURING pregnancy.

Hope this helps!

I used it for three months, it shortened my cycles overall by a week and made me O 5 days earlier. There is tons of info on the net about it, make sure you research thoroughly before taking it. It is defiantly not suitable for pregnancy you must stop when you get your BFP. Like above poster said some only take it till O. I took it all cycle apart from the bleed, I work with herbal remedies and researched the heck out of it I think it's great as long as taken properly.

I also read it was bad to take during pregnancy but i had no idea i was pregnant because i had a "period" for 4 days like usual and almost 6 days later i found out i was pregnant through a routine blood test. Go figure! Like i said i did miscarry but i bleed with my first pregnancy too.. it seems like a normal thing for me. I decided not to take anything like that anymore since my body does it own thing. I certainly hope that any of you who are currently on vitex, it works for you and you get your BFP very soon.
