Symptoms?

I'm 9 weeks with my second and starting to really suspect (not necessarily hope for) twins. I know how much strain it would put on us if we had twins but we would welcome the surprise with wide open arms. Finances would be tight and I worry about the strain it would put on me since I'm the SAHP and that would in turn cause strain on my marriage and my older child because I'm so overwhelmed. That first year would be so hard but I feel like we could get through it in one piece. I'm so incredibly sick from the minute I wake up until I fall asleep again at night and I vomit several times a day. I'm exhausted and fighting sleep all day but I'm not sleeping well at night because the nausea keeps me up. Add in the crazy dreams and up twice a night to pee and I'm ready for a nap by lunch. I got lines on my tests very early as well (have regular cycles/know when I O'd for sure) and had/have a lot of growing pains already that I didn't have with my first. Plus, all of my other symptoms are much much worse than they were with my first baby. I haven't had a scan yet but I will be scheduling that at my first appt on the 7th.

So for those with multiples...what symptoms did you have in your first trimester?

Hi, sorry you are feeling so rough . In my first pregnancy with my son I didn't have a lot of morning sickness in the early weeks but I did have a lot of headaches and tiredness. With my twin pregnancy I had moderate sickness around weeks 9-14 and I had a lot of sneezing and bloody noses but other than that felt no different to my singleton pregnancy. Looking back I think the nausea and nose issues were because of increased estrogen from carrying 2 girls, not because of it being twins. The reason we suspected it was twins was that I had a very noticeable bump at only 6 weeks. We kept joking that it must be twins as I was showing so fast.

Forgot to add that I was suspicious when I thought I picked up 2 different heartbeats at different sides on my Doppler around 9 weeks.
I didn't get a positive pregnancy test till around 12dpo with twins but it was earlier at 8dpo with my son.

In all honesty i had no idea, it was only because we had an emergency early scan, which also showed high HCG on my blood test in A&E. As the weeks have gone on, i've had awful sickness, been dehydrated, low-blood pressure and string of other health issues, that i never had with my other babies. But that's only after about 10 weeks, before that if i hadn't have known by the scan i would never have thought it was twins, the only thing at the point that was different to my other pregnancies was how tired i was, but i put that down to my job, as i work long hours.

Bump wise im still barely showing and smaller than i was with singletons at this stage.
In my opinion i dont think you can always tell by symptoms xx

Thanks ladies! I feel like it could go either way at this point. Ive also had a really dry nose since getting pregnant, even when it's humid outside. And I haven't had any bloody nose but I can smell blood when I run my nose because it's so dry.

I guess time will tell lol.

I'll be honest, I'm really worried about the impact on my marriage. Someone tell me it will be fine just to ease my thoughts until I know for sure lol

My morning sickness has been the same except I'm 21 weeks now and it hasn't gone away yet lol. My doctor says if it hasn't gone away by now, then I should expect it through the entire pregnancy. Yay!

My HCG levels were bang on average for singletons. I started getting sick 5 weeks 6 days. Maybe the only thing different is how stubborn it was. Meds only take the edge off.
At 7 weeks I had an ultrasound and they only saw one. But before the ultrasound, I remember thinking, "Wonder if it's twins".
9 weeks is when we saw bug #2.

I guess my biggest symptom is how exhausted I was and still am. First trimester, I would sleep 12-13 hours at night, wake up, and be ready for a nap after being up for 2-3 hours. And I could nap for 4 hours a day when allowed.

Really, the only way to tell is from ultrasound.

I have my initial appointment next Friday morning but it's just the medical history and labs and theyll schedule a dating scan from there. Fingers crossed they dont make me wait too long. 20 weeks is typically when the first scan happens here.

If it's more than one baby you will be fine! I won't lie I was absolutely terrified when we found out we were expecting twins. Our son was only 2 at the time and we had had a tough time with him as a baby (colic, reflux, he still wasn't sleeping through the night and I was still breastfeeding him) my husband was very worried that we couldn't cope with two more babies like our son and I have health problems so we knew the pregnancy could be dangerous. I was induced at 34+5 weeks as I had preeclampsia (again) but they were both perfectly healthy and they have been an absolute joy. They are 18 months now and I laugh when I think about how worried we were. Babies are tough on a marriage and looking after 2 is definitely hard work. We argued a lot in the early days when we were sleep deprived and stressed but you get through it. We wouldn't change a thingx
