Dizziness during twin pregnancy: 22 weeks

Hello All!

I'm brand new to this forum and have been desperately searching for a place to find information about twin pregnancies. It's definitely not as available as information on singleton ones.

This is my 5th pregnancy (I have 3 girls and had one miscarriage) but this is my first multiple pregnancy. And man is it different than the others!

Namely the dizziness! It's not everyday that I'm dizzy. Definitely, some days are worse than others and a few days I'm not dizzy at all. I've mentioned the dizziness to my doctor but he doesn't seem concerned which is good. It's such a nuisance though. I mean I walk from my office to the restroom and back and I have to sit and steady myself afterward. Oh and it's usually accompanied by once I do sit down I can hear my heart beat in my ears, like a whoosh whoosh whoosh.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this at all normal?

Definitely normal! In a twin pregnancy, you have 200% more blood and your body can feel a little whacky while try to circulate all of that blood everywhere. I very very very much recommend this book on twin pregnancy: https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Expecti...lets+and+quads.

Normal but I think it's worth getting checked, I ended up with a cardiology problem that left me dizzy

Have you noticed any correlation between your dizziness and eating?

I was diagnosed with postprandial hypotension at about the same time. When I'd eat a fair sized meal, up to a couple of hours afterward I'd nearly tip over when I stood up. I was told it was due to the increased blood flow trying to digest my food and then drops because what blood I had to spare wasn't going to my brain like it normally would when I stood.

Agree with the pp's, it can be high / low blood pressure, low iron (and this is something you should be asking your doc to test if he hasn't had the thoughtfulness to do it already for you. Iron carries the oxygen on your blood cells so when you're deficient (common in 2nd & 3rd tri) it can leave you dizzy, tired, your baby can have learning disabilities and leaves you at risk for post partum depression.

Your doc will be more likely to track your blood pressure as preclampsia is a much worse pregnancy outcome than low iron but low iron has long term consequences to your baby.

Thank you everyone for the responses. Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I was having trouble with logging in.

I do think it's my iron. I remembered that at my last appointment that the doctor had said I was low and so I got some supplements and it's been better. I'm still dizzy at times but not NEARLY as much as I was before.

I will still bring it up to him next week at my appointment just to be safe.

Ive been collapsing on and off since 6 weeks, now 20+3 and today has been another dizzy day, mine is not due to iron as my iron levels are great and not even needed tabs. I was hoping it would get easier but mine is down to low sugars at times. My bp started at 89/59 as always have low bp which caused first collapse but has been steadily on rise now at 115/70 x
