Surprise twins!

Hi everyone I have found out today that I am expecing twins!!! A huge huge shock I hace 6 children already and wanted one more my baby is only 10 months but there are 2!!!! they have worried me at the hospital though the have said I am having monochorionic twins and that they think there is a small membrane seperating them but they seemed so worried and started telling me how high risk this was going to be ect! I guess I just wanted to know how hard this is going to be two babies one placenta, I want to be excited but I cant yet because I think I should be worrying. I dont want to look it up on the internet just yet as I think it will scare me!

Ohhhhhhhhhh my gosh! Wow you will be busy, people tell me that but now I can officially say that to someone else! Hopefully your body will know what do do by now and keep the placenta running just fine and deliver healthy babies. Welcome to the twin club, this will be such a different pregnancy for you than what you're used to! Congrats on your twins

Congratulations!!! I advise against googling anything at all. It'll more than likely tell you that your arm is about to fall off or something completely ridiculous. I don't know anything about twins which share a placenta.. mine had one each. I'm quite sure someone will be along shortly to help you though. All the twin mummies and twim mummies are lovely here.

Welcome to this very special club! I hope you have a fabby pregnancy and look forward to reading your journey x

I have the same. Monochorionic diamniotic twins. This means they are identical. CONGRATS! I am 20 weeks with mine and I tell you the worrying does NOT go away after the first trimester like it usually does with singletons, BUT you will get more frequent scans to put your mind at ease. I did A LOT of research, as I'm the type of person who needs to know everything so I can feel "in control", but really, it doesn't do anything but scare you more. Every single ultrasound I've had i've been totally terrified and was "sure" I'd be told something had happened to one of them, but, every time, I have wonderfully healthy babies. The stress isn't worth it and it's not good for them either! So let the doctor worry about it and IF it becomes an issue, then you can worry too, until then relax! while you can! Your belly will grow so quickly and you'll be tired, especially if you have 6 children already! you have your hands full!, you'll need all the rest you can get. But It is a amazing experience! Try to enjoy it. I bought a sanoline B handheld heart doppler on e-bay for like $50, it was totally worth it as I could listen to the babies heartbeats at home whenever I wanted to and ease my mind (which I did almost every single day until about 14 weeks when I started feeling them move! lol) Most twins come early anyway, but with one placenta, your doctor will probably deliver them around 36 weeks, but that doesn't necessarily mean c-section. You will probably see a specialist along with your OB also. This is some of the information that is actually good to know so you can prepare, but not something you need too worry about for some time yet! Make sure you are really comfortable with your doctor and they don't treat your twin pregnancy like they did all your single ones! As you are high risk, all twins are, and you'll need some extra care, but really, it's nothing to worry about, just precaution really. So again, congrats! welcome to the twins club! These are wonderful women to talk to if you want or need advice, or just want to talk about your babies. Relax and enjoy your new pregnancy experience!

Congratulations on your twins. I had a monochronic dioamontic pregnancy, a shared placenta with a small membrane seperating them and my girls are now very healthy six month olds. It is classed as higher risk but that doesn't mean something will go wrong.

I had a complication free pregnancy so it can happen, you will be kept a very close eye on with lots of checks which is reassuring. I don't have anything to compare it too as it was my only pregnancy but i did struggle after about 28 weeks to do things due to tireness and size.

Try not to worry identical twins are amazing. Xx

Congratulations on your TWINS Im also having identical twins (sharing a placenta). I was also very worried after my first appointment as they explained the risks & stuff, but i suppose they just have to tell you these things. Im now at 25 weeks and everythings been great so far get scanned every 2 weeks and they seem to be doing great so try not to stress out about it, everything will be fine

We just found out yesterday we are pregnant with twins too - very unexpected as no twins in either family! They are 90% certain that they are DCDA twins but said theres 10% chance they could still share the same placenta and be identical.

Its so nerve racking. We have had to rethink everything. Been to look at twin travel systems today. Before we knew we were having twins we really liked the iCandy Apple - it looks like we'll now go for the iCandy Pear twin system. Everything is gunna cost a fortune now! Haha. What is everyone else getting? And what about nursery furniture? Do you get 2 cots or one?

x
