Positive OPK 10 DPO!?

Hi all! I'm looking for some help here. I'm currently enduring the dreaded two week wait, and decided this morning to take an HPT. Got a -, but then decided a few hours later to take an OPK after reading that these can potentially pick up on HCG. I got the fastest positive I have ever gotten - the test line was dark before the control line!

I've read a few threads where people mention that some women experience an LH surge prior to their period. Although I've been able to find some information as to how an OPK can indicate pregnancy, I'm not able to really understand the logistics of a second LH surge prior to a period. It seems LH typically drops in the second half of the cycle, and especially leading up to AF.

If anyone has any info on this, I'd love to hear it!!

Maybe you ov late or even twice when I got my BFP I used opt and pt and the opk showed just normal faint lines. Opk really don't indicate BFP.

Thanks for your reply! I guess I should clarify - I'm not under the impression that this indicates pregnancy by any means. Although it's possible for an OPK to pick up on HCG, because of the structural similarity of the molecules, I 100% understand that it's not an indicator of pregnancy. I tested more out of curiosity than anything, and was suprised to get such a fast positive.

Although I do understand, scientifically, how a test designed to measure LH can pick up HCG, what I don't understand is, physiologically, how and/or why LH would be elevated immediately prior to menstruation (I've read some anecdotal evidence that this can sometimes happen). Given my cycle regularity and relative confidence that I ovulated on time this cycle, I don't believe that this is a result of late and/or second ovulation (although I do recognize that it's possible).

If anyone understands and/or has information as to the physiological reasons, other than ovulation, that LH would be elevated immediately prior to menstruation, I'd love to read up more on it!

It is possible that your body geared up to ovulate but failed- and is trying again. Its not terribly uncommon and the same thing happened to me last month

Out of curiosity - are you temp charting? I assume that if this happened (body prepared to ovulate, couldn't, and is trying again), temps wouldn't have elevated and/or remained elevated in a clear thermal shift. I actually don't trust the OPKs precisely because of what you mentioned, but it seems the temp shift wouldn't occur without ovulation.

I have two answers -- I ovulated twice (or got to bfp opk's in one cycle) I got one on cd 14 and cd 32 on cd 42 I got my bfp --

My OPK was really BFP dark test line and I have a very very faint bfp on my HPT at 10 dpo with DS

my opks get a little darker toward the end of my tww but never become bfp like that unless I was ovulating again or it was a BFP, LH is the same as HCG (minus one hormone) hince why the OPK can pick up the HCG quicker (sometimes)than HPT. HPT are made to detect at higher amounts 25miu are mostly the norm although 10miu are out there ( they give nasty evaps)

GL !!!

I know this is an 'old' thread but did you turn out to be pregnant in the end this cycle???
I'm currently experiencing the same thing... done 2 different brand hpt's this morning and took a opk aswell and that's positive... (though it was with fmu, not sure whether that might give a false positive on opk) but the hpt's were negative.
The only reason I can think off the hpt's being negative is I might've ovulated 2 or 3 days later than expected...
