Progesterone cream is useful for some women, those with insufficient progesterone in their bodies. Progesterone is the hormone that controls the second half of the cycle, in women with low progesterone the uterine lining breaks down too soon for implantation to occur. If you have a short luteal phase (ie: <10 days) you may want to consider progesterone cream, although you need to be sure of when you ovulate before you start the cream because if you start it too early you will actually prevent ovulation from happening. So with the use of OPK's or fertility charting progesterone cream is very safe.
I used charting with fertilityfriend to determine when I ovulated and then started using the progesterone cream 1/4 teaspoon twice a day and I had a 13 day luteal phase. Some women will start their periods while on the progesterone cream but for some women (like me) it will delay the start of your period. So once you ovulate use the cream til between 14 and 16 dpo, use a HPT (or blood test at doctors) and if you're not pregnant stop using the progesterone cream and your period will return in a few days. If you are in fact pregnant you will need to use the progesterone cream until week 12-14. At that point in your pregnancy the placenta takes over production of progesterone and you won't need the cream anymore although I've read you can use the cream all the way until week 38 of your pregnancy to prevent preterm labor.
I really hope I helped and didn't give you wayyyy too much information lol. I spent months researching the use of natural vs synthetic progesterone and have retained alot of information. Let me know if you have any questions.
That's wonderful information. Is the cream supposed to increase my BBT? I've been charting and I confirmed ovulation and started using the cream at 5 DPO (three days now) but I haven't noticed much of an increase. Here's my chart- http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/28c7c3
It's kind of scary to think that I may miscarry again if I stop using it before 12-14 weeks...yikes! My luteal phase is 12-14 days and I did have spotting 3-5 days before my period before I started taking B6 100 mg. The spotting decreased to 1 1/2- 2 days due to the B6 but I'm hoping the cream will eliminate it all together. The progesterone I'm using is Source Naturals Progesterone Cream and I'm using 1/4 tsp twice a day because anymore than that gives me headaches and fatigue. Is this a good one?
Also, is this brand acceptable to use during pregnancy? I see a disclaimer which states to ask your doctor before using this product if you are pregnant or nursing. I am breastfeeding (my son is 2 1/2 years old) and trying to get pregnant...hummmmmmmmmm...
