I also used a period tracker on my phone which was almost always spot on with when I'd get my period. It wasn't until Feb, when I conceived on my first cycle of trying, that I realized I may ovulate early and have a longer luteal phase. My cycles are always pretty spot on at 27-28 days and my app on my phone has the 5 most fertile days around the 12-16th day of the cycle. It's probably assuming I O on the 14th day of the cycle like most docs and apps do. Except... this was the first month I was taking OPKs starting on CD11 and I never tested positive. The lines were no where near as dark as the control line.
I ended up preggo that cycle! The apps are useful for estimating AF but not good at tracking ovulation, which is the most important part about TTC. I think I O'd on CD10 or CD11, which means my most fertile days were not what the app told me.
I'm very lucky to land pregnant on my first try but if I could go back, I'd definitely make sure I was charting my BBT starting the first day of my period so that I can see definitely when I O'd. That information would help me if I had to go on to another TTC cycle.
