Awaiting AF after coming off the pill

So I've mentioned in a few threads that I've just come off the pill, took my last one on the 16th June. I have been somewhat anxiously awating the arrival of AF since as I have PCOS and despite managing to regulate my cylce and clear up my cysts by losing a lot of weight I don't know if I ever started ovulating or if I will now. Especially as I've put on a little weight recently (though nowhere near my start weight).

Anyway after not getting much luck with OPKS I started charting my temperature on Monday. It was 36.6 Mon-Wed, 36.5 yesterday and this morning it was 35.4. I redid it it a few times to check and it did keep changing but not higher than 35.8 which is still a considerable drop from 36.6. I read that a dip usually predicts an iminent period and wondered whether any of you who chart could confirm this and what your thoughts were?

Thanks ladies

Unfortunately I don't chart so I can't help you out. I just came off the pill a few months ago and things have steadied out for me now. I hope it comes for you soon, or another lady on here can answer your temping question!

Your 35.4 temp does seem excessively low...was there anything different this morning? Did you sleep for longer, have you had a bad night, did you wake up with icicles on your nose? (sorry, that's a bit facetious, I know, but it does seem like you were frozen this morning!) Maybe this will be within your normal range, but you will need to chart a couple of cycles to confirm that.

Regardless, I don't think you can use a dip to predict AF arriving if you've only been charting since Monday - there's not enough data there to say if your temp has been elevated long enough to be a proper post-ov range, if you see what I mean?

Your cycles can take a while to regulate after coming off BCP, so I'd expect things to look a bit weird and not make much sense for the first few cycles, perhaps - don't worry excessively if your charts don't look like 'textbook' charts! I've been charting for almost 2 years, and even though I ovulate etc, I almost never have a textbook chart.

Also, I may just be weird, but I never, ever, ever, get the temp drop before AF comes. Sucks, because I get no warning except that my LP obviously stays pretty constant so I know what day she should turn up, but my temp never drops in advance. It usually drops on CD2. So yes, the temp drop 10-14 days post-ov can be used to predict imminent AF, but it doesn't always happen.

Congratulations on losing lots of weight, also I don't have PCOS, but I have a hard time losing weight and I know it can be more difficult if you have hormonal issues. My hormones are unbalanced and a bit deficient (I'm oestrogen-dominant and a bit low on progesterone), so maybe that contributes to my problems. But that's great going, and it should help your cycles regulate

Ok, sorry for the essay...I just kind of did a bit of a brain-dump there...I hope some of it was helpful and answered what you were asking! I'm pretty experienced with charting, so if you want to ask me more, please feel free to PM me

So here I go again typing this a second time lol

Thanks for your advice. I am not sure how accurate the thermometer I have is as it only cost 2.99. My temp remained the low all week just jumping up to 35.8 this morning which is still low. The only other thing I can think of is that I've long suspected I have a poor functioning thyroid which I know can lower bbt. I guess I'll just keep charting and see.

Thanks also for the comments on the weight loss I'm actually almost 2 stone heavier than I was at my lowest and it's driving me crazy. Cannot seem to budge it. Hoping it'll be easier now I'm off the pill as I put on the weight while on it. I had regulated my cycle pre-pill from the weight loss and even had a scan last year which showed no cysts but just praying things haven't changed after putting a bit back on.

It's great to chat to someone who's all over it with charting be nice to keep in touch about it all.
