Saving for a baby?

Hi everyone

My partner and I are planning to start trying in February, and with all the money we seem to be spending this christmas it got me thinking about baby savings.

Did anyone here wait to save a certain amount of money before trying? If you did would you mind sharing?

I don't want to seem rude and prying i just want to prepare as much as possible!

Thanks

we didnt save for a baby but i had savings, IYKWIM? I used a bit of that to buy my pram, bottles, steriliser (all brand new) a few babygrows and vests -team yellow, cot, moses basket, play mat, swing, bouncy chair etc all second hand, loans etc. Having a baby can be as cheap or expensive as you like x

Yeah I definitely want to have everything before baby gets here, but I suppose anyone does. After christmas I will start saving, and then start buying baby stuff once i get to a certain stage in the pregnancy.

Heres hoping I catch on quick once we start TTC!

we wanted to have 6 months expenses put aside just "generally" speaking; saving that much was really hard, but now it's nice to know it's there!! i doubt we will do anything additional for baby-savings. good luck!

we saved while I was pregnant and paid off overdrafts. I would strongly recommend starting to save asap but I wouldn't wait while saving as you will be there forever and also it may take a while to get pregnant - don't forget you have the 9months to save also

We're saving all our money at the moment as we're currently buying a house, so come january (when hopefully it'll be ours and we can move in) we'll be mega poor for a few months! I think we'll just gradually buy stuff throughout the pregnancy, obviously not starting to buy too soon...

I'm definitely not going to buy everything new I'll get what I can second-hand from family and friends (plenty of babies in the family at the moment!), otherwise I'll go to nearly-new sales, car boot sales etc. I do want a new pushchair and car seat, though.

I'm not going to buy everything they say to buy, only the essentials to begin with, and then buy other stuff if and when I need it.
