What to ask?

Hey Guys!

My OH and I are planning to start trying in Sept next year and are seeing the doctor in January to get some advice on what we need to do to make sure we are all ready.

I was just wondering whether I can ask for some help - what sort of things should we ask the doctor during our appointment? I'm so new to all this that i just don't want to forget something and then have to make another appointment or do something wrong.

Any guidance would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks x

I think this is a brilliant thread as hubs and I will start trying in August by the grace of God.

It's very responsible of the both of you with wish to ask your doctor questions. I hope I'm not coming across as being patronising (lol) but I didn't even think of doing this. Will book an appointment tomorrow or Friday with DH so we can see our doctor by the grace of God and I look forward to what everyone also has to say

Thanks hun x

I know I've read in books to make sure vaccines are up to date, but my doctor didn't seem too overly concerned when I saw her. As for me, she just suggested I start taking a prenatal vitamin.

When my hubby had his physical about nine months pre-ttc, she said just to continue eating healthy and exercising. We're both non-smokers so that wasn't an issue.

Are you still on BCP? I went off it about 11 cycles ago, and it took it a good 3-4 cycles to finally start to get on track. I've been charting my temps and have found it incredibly helpful.

Best of luck to you.

here's a list to get you jump started --

other than that, i'd just make sure to have had a recent physical and pap smear, and don't forget a dental check up

I just mentioned to my doctor that I was going to try when I got my last batch of pill and he arranged a test to see if my rubella vaccine was up to date and told me to take folic acid and that I can try straight after coming off the pill.

Good luck!

Thanks so much everyone - especially qwk because that link was super useful.

I now have a list of questions to start with - my doctor is probably going to think we are completely nuts but I woiuld rather appear crazy and be prepared than go into all this blind.

Thanks again - and good luck to you all too.
