SMP

Hiya

I am checking out budgeting etc and was wondering a couple of things:

- SMP do you pay NI & tax on this (124.88 weekly after first 6 wks smp I believe)

- Child Tax Credit when you make a new claim, does this get paid weekly or monthly?

Also I went onto the HMRC Child Tax Credit calculator to give me an idea of what we would get and it told me approx 419 per year, then I got 381 per year and not its telling me 360!! WTF is all that about??

Thank you!

Thats pants re the tax & ni on SMP, looks like it is gonna take us even longer to save At the mo I earn approx 14736 and hubby 15k but after bills things are tight. I get taxed a total of approx 18% tax & ni on my payslip each month so if thats what will be taken off SMP each month its a bit of a chunk on families who are struggling! I dont know how people do it!

forgot to say you'll be taxed at a lower rate as you'll be earning a lower amount

the DWP will be able to tell you how much tax you'll have to take off

it won't be 18% off, hun

Oh ok! Thank you for the help. If I gave them a call could they give me an idea of what I would be taxed or thereabouts?

When I was on SMP I took home about 450 a month after tax - and I was contributing about 25 to pension.

Hope that helps.

when i was on smp it was 123.06 a week and deducted roughly 5 for tax and ni so getting 117 a week

i think all the benefits are paid 4 weekly.
theres child benefit 20 a week (paid 4 weekly)
then child tax and working tax credit depending on income

Thanks ladies. I dont put into a pension as cant afford! Lol. I know at the min smp is 124.88 pw which works out roughly at 541.14 before tax & ni. We arent entitled to working tax credit as we earn over 16k a year between us. But we could get some CTC and would get CB. I am really nervous about getting preg and then realsing we cant afford the essentials!! I am a stresshead tho!
