When to start

Hiya

We are gong to start TTC in approx 1 yr (maybe before) and I was just wondering is it too soon to start taking Folic Acid? Also when we do start TTC what other things do me & hubby need to do besides trying to eat healthier, cut down on alcohol & caffeine etc? I have never smoked and hubby stopped years ago so we are okay on that side of things.

Thank you!

I have been wondering exactly the same thing. I've bought multi-vits with folic acid this week (is it crazy to be excited about this?!), don't really drink & don't smoke. OH doesn't drink or smoke either & we're both reasonably fit but I feel I/ we should be doing something more in preparation.

Im glad it isnt just me! OH drinks sometimes a few times a week but can cut down no probs, I also like my wine or pear cider maybe once a week sometimes not even that! Is it best to cut out completely when TTC or can I have the last enjoyment of wine for getting pregnant?!!! I sometimes have a glass on a thurs night to help me de-stress a little as coming to the end of the week!!!

Hi ladies

I started taking folic acid 1 month before TTC and made sure I was getting folic acid in my diet e.g cereals.

Myself and my husband dont smoke so that wasn't a problem and we didn't really make any changes to our day to day diet, I fell pregnant quite quickly but if we had experienced problems TTC i would probably then started to think about cutting out alcohol and caffeine.

Hmm, i think a yr and 8 months is a little early lol!

I'm going to wait till about 9 months before and then start seriously taking supplements to get my body prepared, my OH will be scrubbing up aswel - afterall I was born with my eggs but the mans sperm depends on his current lifestyle - all i have to worry about is if my body is healthy enough to go through 9 months of change

I might wait for a few months and then see about taking some. Or just for the hell of it I may start now. Lol.
