I use natural methods. I came off the pill for the side effects after researching the rythym method. I told my OH that I can track when I ovulate and he can withdraw when I am fertile. He doesn't always withdraw so if i want him to stay in and I am not fertile he will. It does require alot of trust and sometimes were are coming up to he has to ask 'is it safe?'

I much prefer it though, but you do always have to remember when you ovulate. I can feel my ovulation so I dont have to check my CM or anything, I think it would be quite difficult that way. If you do pursuade your OH i would use withdrawal all the time until you have got the hang of your cycles again!

Oh and it has worked for a year for me and OH

water based lube is fine but you dont want to use an oil based one
Astro glide and KY both make water based lubes that are pretty good

Thanks chick, so nice to hear other peoples experiences of natural methods.....I do know my cycle pretty well and i did say to my OH we could use withdrawl up until like a day or two before my AF as ive read that, that is the safest time beens sperm lives up to 3 days in the body. Its just talking my OH into trusting me that it is safe (he hates condoms and would love not to use them but i cant use anything else)

For about 2 years we didn't use anything, the thought of getting pregnant never entered our heads, OH said that he could control it. After a while I started to get abit uncomfortable with the 'using nothing whatsoever' and we started using condoms. Condoms were ok for a few years, but in the last year or so they have been really uncomfortable and I can't seem to enjoy , sometime I just completely dry up (sorry TMI) or after abit get a burning feeling. The other night after we had I strated to get the burning feeling and couldn't help but push him off me. We started talking about when we would try for a baby and wondered how it would feel without a condom (been so long forget what it feels like). I was worried about the whole getting pregnant but but Hubby reassured me that he can't just go whenever and he can control it (he managed it for the 2 years we didn't use anything) and if he felt like he wanted to go he would pull out. We had a little go and it felt great

TBH i think when my OH see's after we've had a few goes (and not got pregnant) that it is pretty safe. And you saying that trixiebell i get a burning sensation using condoms and a lil sore afterwards (sorry TMI) but i never thought it could be the condoms, worth thinking about that is and thank you x

I've had some luck after trying different brands of condoms. I'd still rather not use a barrier method (miss my IUD), but the condoms we use now are way better than Trojans or Durex, IMO. We use Okamoto Crown or Okamoto Beyond Seven. They are thinner than the ones you usually find at the drug store, and my husband and I both find them a lot more comfortable. Also, you can buy them very cheap online. I get mine on Amazon at 60 for $6. And yes, they are reliable. There's no reason for tubes of latex to cost a dollar a piece.

Also, you can usually find "variety packs" from stores online so that you can try a bunch of different types and figure out which ones you like best. I think some of the better sex shops sell these as well.

And don't forget lube! Even if you think you don't need it, I find that latex dries out a lot faster than skin. For water-based lubes, I love Sliquid Organics. No glycerin and it seems to last really well.
