Welcome, I am new here as well. I am not a SMBC so much as I am entering an apparently poorly documented venture of co-parenting. I am a gay woman, my best friend is a.. questionably straight man, we are both in similar situations and over the past year or two we have been planning to co-parent and will be (artificially) TTC starting in March/April.

Good luck to you!

Welcome and congrats! Was going your route too, was actually looking at fertility clinics when I met my husband to be at the age of 35 :-) Now I have a 7 month old girl and a husband, and we'll be TTC'ing next month (I'm 37 now).

Hello everyone I have a friend that is willing to help me conceive my child, but he wants to do it the natural way. Do I give the child his last name, if he is only doing this to help me.

OMG no. Not unless you're willing to co-parent with him and have all that goes with that! If he's going to be your known donor you need to take care of things very carefully to make it a legitimate "donor" scenario regardless of how conception is done.

I mean, get lawyers, contracts, etc etc. If there's not paperwork in place beforehand, you may find yourself in a pickle later on (even from his family who may decide they want rights etc etc). Definitely look into the laws and such in your area (I'm Canadian so not sure it's the same for me as you - where are you?)

Okay then you're on your way! yay! I still would hesitate in giving the child his name because that would be acknowledging the donor as a parent in my mind. jmo
