Dog Loving WTTers

As suggested in one of my other threads... here is the Dog Lover tread!
I have a dog, she's a cutie for sure. But as I found out I'm not alone in treating her as a furry child. And I found I'm not alone! For every story someone shares about their kid... we have a dog story to match.
We're not talking just loving the animals. They are just like our children. We buy them gifts, we worry about them. We see expressions and personalities in them. And (at least in my case) we dress them up. Molly has a halloween costume, sweaters and a winter coat. She got gifts from my family this Christmas.
My mother even calls her the granddaughter!

Some may not be to this extent... some may be far past me. But we need a place to share those dog stories... so as not to annoy the non pet folk I think!

I'll start:

Molly still gets excited when she does her lady business on the puppy pad (she's tiny under 10lbs so we're keeping her paper trained) She finishes and then comes running to tell us. Its very cute, she almost seems upset if we don't realize what she's done! People are jealous that we house broke her on praise alone!

And I get excited that the vet calls me Molly's Mom! I'm finally someone's MOM!!!! (I also get excited that they mistakenly gave me OH's last name on our file... and address all the mail to MRS... and we're not even engaged yet!)

Can't wait to hear other dog moms out there!

Definitely a dog mom here! We have two, Zoey a 2 year old Lhasa apso, and Maggie a 1 1/2 year old Lhasa Bichon. They are my babies. I completely understand what you are saying. I would step into traffic and get hit by a bus to save them.

I work at a Humane Society, so pretty much everyone in my world feels the same way about their pets as I do. We all ordered Christmas gifts for our dogs from petedge this Christmas, and just placed one large group order so we would only have to pay one shipping charge. I also bought pig ears for everybody's dogs and wrapped them up in little gift bags. I don't know how many other places you can give your co-workers pig ears for Christmas and have them be thrilled!

Zoey loves to learn. Anything. She knows Sit, Lay down, stay, Up (on 2 back legs), Hop (on back legs she will hop forward), roll over, bang (play dead), spin, hold it (treat on nose/top of head, she will do this in the 'up' position too) paw, other paw, wave (wave 1 paw), heel, here (go to where I'm pointing), come, and find it (search for hidden object). I love taking them to obedience classes and they always have a blast! I wish that we had an agility course here in town, we would do that too!

This is my Zoe:

whom we also dress up

and this is my Maggie:

They wear seat belts in the car..

Absolutely, without a second thought...

This made me laugh! My mum wraps up pigs ear for her "grand children" every Christmas

We've two big very hairy dogs! They're German Shepherd crosses - not sure what else is in there but very handsome and pretty! (one boy, one girl) They love all sorts of activity and love agility. They've particularly enjoyed running around and rolling in all the snow we've had over the last week!

When I was younger I was told by numerous psychics that I'd have twins. When I go to the vet though my vet always comes into the waiting room and says "Right so, bring in the twins!" (the dogs are litter mates) Makes me wonder....!

I love this thread.

I do already have one child but my Shiba Inu "Simba" is a wonderful "big brother". He is kind, gentle, and we adopted him two years ago in anticipation of training him to be a family-friendly dog. He's done great! Every day, 3-4x a day, I put on my sling and walk with my baby and Simba.

So I came across this today. I have to say I teared up a bit. I love how happy these people are. Not that I advocate giving them as gifts, unless you were planning on it anyway...
