Holiday when TTC

Hi there,

Mine's a while off yet but is anyone else thinking of having a holiday when TTC? We decided to wait to try until my friends wedding abroad. But does this mean I won't be able to have a drink? And when can we start trying? If we did on the first night of the holiday then her wedding was a couple of days later could I have a drink then? Or should we just wait till we get back! I really wouldn't want anyone realising we were trying - just in case it didn't happen for a while.

If anyone can give me answers to any of this, let me know! Thanks.

most women quit drinking after ovulation
My ob said its actually safe to drink (as long as your not getting smashed) up till the day you miss your period.
The baby dosnt implant untill 8-12 dpo and the alcohol wont affect it untill it implants and begins growing a placenta which dosnt happen untill 12-16 dpo
SO I hope that helps some.
Had a MC not long ago and we thought I MC'd turned out it was a twin. I was taking Ibuprophin for the cramps and then found out I was still pregnant.
I freaked out and told my dr I had taken the ibuprophin for the cramps and knew it wasnt a safe med and he told me that it was fine in that time span.
As it turns out I miscarried the other one too, but that wasnt related at all to the medication but because I have a clotting disorder and didnt know it then.

Sure why not? Mine was conceived on holiday, lol! Nothing to do but relax, go out for dinner, and erm... enjoy the hotel! I chose not to drink but plenty of women do when TTC, it's what you are comfortable with. You can have fun without some booze

It has to be a matter of personal choice really... some people don't feel comfortable drinking at all when they are TTC, others are happy to carry on having the occasional glass of wine even once they know they are pregnant.

If you actually did conceive on the first night of your holiday then implantation would not have even happened 2days later, so on that basis, and considering that a lot of women drink without realising that they are pregnant and report no problems, you should be fine to carry on having a drink on the wedding day. That said, I would probably be thinking of having a couple of glasses of wine rather than a couple of bottles!

It really does have to be what you are comfortable with though, if you are going to worry about it then for the sake of a few extra days until you get home it might be worth waiting? Sorry if this isn't much help!

I just thought I'd mention as well that depending on where abroad you are going if you need vaccinations or malaria tablets etc you might need to think about them. I thought of it because I am going to Kenya for my honeymoon in August and have to wait 3-4 weeks after I am back before I can TTC because the malaria tablets aren't safe in pregnancy. Also, you should leave a set amount of time after some vaccinations before you TTC.... I'm not sure if its relevant for you but I hope this helps!

Hi
As you can see from my ticker we are planning a holiday while TTC we even call it our Babymoon. There is loads of evidence so show that it helps, relaxed, time together etc.
As for the drinking I canít really help there Iím not a big drinker and wonít be drinking at all from 3 months before TTC but thatís just me.
Another thing for you to think of though is what you can/canít eat while pregnant. I do worry about this as itís not always easy to know what you are eating in some countries.
Good luck with it all.

when Pregnant your not supposed to eat lunch meats or hot dogs because of listeria.
you arent supposed to eat a lot of shelfish its fine in moderation though.
other than those two restrictions my doctors never said anything else about what NOT to eat

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm going to Las Vegas so won't be needing any vaccinations, so I'm ok on that front. I'm not planning on getting plastered, I want to enjoy my holiday after all and not wake up with a huge hangover! But she's having her hen do out there so I can imagine that will be our big night out. I reckon we'll NTNP, then try after the wedding.

I wouldn't feel right drinking anything at all if I knew I was pregnant and like I said, I wouldn't want my friends to all know we were trying. That would definitely be too much pressure.

Now I just have to force myself to wait 13 months!! That's the hard bit!

Lol, I don't understand why people say don't drink while trying!!

I drank over 4 bottles of champagne in early pregnancy (obviously I didn't know I was pregnant at the time!!) As long as your not drunk out of your face every day, you'll be fine!!
