Just wondering....

but how long is everyone planning on taking as maternity leave?

I have had to agree with my OH on only taking 6 weeks as we cannot afford for me to be off longer and my work only pay 90% for the first 6 weeks and then it really drops! I would love longer but it is just not do-able!

But I can work from home in my job and my mother will be looking after the baby until old enough to start pre-school

Its not set in stone at all.

But we plan for me to be off for the max time ( which i think is a year), I will only get MA. Then I will go back to work 1 day a week, when my mum has LO, if OH mum offered I would do 2 days, but not sure that is likely

We will really struggle for money, but my mum couldn't do more than i day a week, and I don't have anyone else to look after LO.I do care work, so by the time I would have paid for nursery or a childminder, i don't think it would be worth me working, but am not sure will have to look into it nearer the time.

To be honest, if I can i wouldnt want to work more than 2 day a week till they were 3-4, I would be worried I would miss out ;( but i totally understand every persons circumstances are different.

Oh works 8-6pm mon-fri, the only other thing I would think about doing would be to work in the eve`s. Or I would love to have a job i could do from home, maybe that's something i could look into near the time!!

Sorry I have rambled on!!!

xxx

In Canada we get a year. The first three months is considered Maternity Leave and for that period, my company tops up what the government pays in order to allow me 100% of my salary. After that, it's considered parental leave and my company will not pay the difference, but that's okay! Oh and I can tag my 3 weeks vacation on to the beginning if I want to and then the next year's 3 weeks onto the end (although I don't think I will do that last part).

As a single mom, (with my mom living on the other side of the country) I will be putting my child in daycare which in my city isn't as expensive as in others so I'm not concerned about that part. What concerns me though is the wait lists and such. It's been suggested that I put my name down as soon as I start trying and if they call, I take the spot for my LO regardless if I'm ready. Hopefully that won't happen too much earlier than I want because I'll either be paying $4-500 a month for nothing because I'm still at home, or I'll be putting my LO in daycare and going back to work earlier than I want in order not to waste the money.

But I try to not think about that right now. LOL

Well I'm currently still on maternity leave after having my daughter and by the time I go back to work (3 days a week) I will have had a year off. My parents will look after Summer 2 days and oh's mum will have her the other day. I was already over 3 months pregnant when I started my job so I was only entitled to maternity allowance but it was fine for us as oh earns a very good wage, plus I had a years entitlement of annual leave to add on which was fully paid.

We plan on ttc our second in may and after I've had my next I won't be returning to work at all, although I might lookfor something once all my children are in school. Maybe then I can just find a little something to do that enjoy that's for me, I will just see how I feel once the kids are older!

X

I haven't thought too far ahead... I've just always planned to take the first year off.
After that... we'll see. Daycare I guess, or maybe my M-I-L perhaps she'll be retired by then
Ideally I'd love to be a stay at home mom, but that probably won't work if we want to eat.

I am the breadwinner, I will be taking 3 months and going back. Dh will be looking after any bubbas we have most of the tim, with some help from my mum.

We are going to save so that I can have the full time off on the same salary, so after 6 weeks top up stat maternity with savings. X

I would love to have longer but with the job I am in, in our company I am the only woman in our team of Commercial Managers so if I take too long off I could jepordise my job and being an accountant I need to be in the know and keep my skills up to date! My OH is also an accountant.

I sound awful like my career comes first but that just is not the case I just need to be realistic in the world and if I want my child to have the best I need to be able to provide for him/her

Also as I can work from home it makes it a bit easier! I am just glad that my mother doesn't work so she can look after him/her (she already looks after her furry grandchildren by 2 dogs lol)

I will be taking about nine months hopefully... My oh earns three times what I do so we can live on his wage plus maternity allowance relatively comfortably... I cant wait to spend that quality time at home with new baby
Does anyone know the guidelines around what stage of pregnancy you can work up to? x
