Newbie

Hi everyone! I'm very very new to all this so please bear with me.

Me and my husband have just agreed (finally) that we will begin trying to get pregnant this year. I'm 33 and kind of feel like it's now or never, even though the timing isn't perfect. But when will it ever be perfect?

We've considered it long and hard, we're both quite cautious types who do have a tendancy to over-think a little bit (especially the negative points such as no sleep or money, dirty nappies, complete life upheaval etc etc). I was feeling quite excited about the prospect of starting our own little family but now that we've agreed that we will begin trying this year, I'm feeling quite apprehensive about the whole thing! Is this normal? None of our friends have children and we've not spent a vast amount of time with any so we're going in to this pretty much blind.

Can anyone reccommend good web sites or books to read for information? And could anyone reccommend a good brand of vitamins with folic acid for me. I've read you should take these for 1-3 months before trying to concieve so want to start taking them asap.

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there. I just answered a similar thread to this one.

Yes it's normal to feel apprehensie, I was terrified, but once you have your little bundle in your arms, that all goes out the window!

As for vitamins, all the prenatal vits my SIL took made her sick, so I only took folic acid. The midwife agreed that this was all I really needed and as long as you have a relatively healthy diet, you shouldn't need any others.

And lastly, on the website stuff, I came here for everything! Advice on birth, breastfeeding, symptoms....the works! There is always someone here who is willing to advise you or support you if you need it. I've got a load of friends on here who i've been talking to for over 2 years and I don't know where i'd be without them to be honest!!

Good luck in your ttc journey! You're gonna love it! x

I over think everything and even more so about when it comes to TTC, i know i will over worry which isnt a good thing but its how i am, if i had the choice id be trying now but it really isnt my choice. I think u can buy the vitamins for preparing for pregnancy but i cant think what they are called. Have a look in the TTC section too i think there is alot of advice in there too xx

Thank you for all your replies. It's good to know that feeling apprehensive is relatively normal! I'm on a quest for as much information as possible. I can't believe how much information there is out then when you put 'pregnancy information' into Google!

Hey hun, and welcome!

I think it's totally normal to feel so nervous about ttc. It's the biggest and most life changing decision any of us ever make so it would be strange if we didn't panic a little.

My husband and I got married when I was 25 and he was 28, he was desperate for us to start a family right away but I was too terrified and put it off for ages until finally I gave in and decided I had to do it sometime no matter how scary it seemed. I knew I wanted to be a mum, so finally I gave birth to Summer aged 27. I'm now 28 and we plan on ttc #2 in May this year when Summer will be 10 months old.

As for vitamins to take, when we decided to start trying I took Sanatogen Pre natal vitamins which contain folic acid and then once I fell pregnant I switched to Sanatogen Mother to Be vitamins which also contained the recommended daily dose of folic acid. I didn't get any sickness with them or anything so they suited me well but there are loads of different brands on the market.

And as far good websites, once I found this site I found it was all I needed and by far the most helpful and friendly site. They've got sections for all sorts and I've never needed to look elsewhere for the answers to any questions i had!

Good luck with everything! When do you think you'll actively start trying?

X

Hopefully within the next 3-6 months. I'm 34 this year so don't really feel like I have too much time to waste.

I am with ya on this one. Everyone I know tells me I waaaayyyyy over think things all the time - I look too far into situations as well.

Some moments I can't wait to have a baby and then sometimes I think about things and am like ummm.... I'm not to sure about this anymore! I will be 31 in April and feel like it is now or never!! Timing might be a little off as hubby is younger (29 in May) and still in college but oh well. We're gonna dive in face first and hope for the best!! Things always find a way of working out!!
