This is HUGE.

I'm generally a very impulsive person. I tend to live by the theory of just ripping off the band-aide, LOL. This morning, I did probably the most impulsive thing I've ever done.

...I bought sperm

Ok, so it's not necessarily a laughing matter, but I'm trying to find the humor in what I've just done. Don't worry, this is something I've been considering for a while now.

Here's my plan. Since I begin a 13 month class on Monday to gain higher paramedic certification, I'm going to wait at least six months before insemination. During those six months, I intend to lose weight, and get my body healthy, start a savings account specifically for child needs, trade in my car for an SUV, and chart ovulation every month. That's a long list, and I'm not sure where I will find myself six months from now. Very hard to say.

I figure I will either be ready, or close to ready, or just not. In the case of it not being the right time, obviously no insemination.

This is crazy, really, it is. But I found the PERFECT donor, and his profile is ordered and being shipped to me, LOL. He's 6'3", Irish/Scottish/Welsh (which is VERY important to me), he's got a BA in English, was born in 1977, his family and extended family are all in perfect health, he's got green eyes and brown hair and he has AWESOME handwriting. (I'm a nerd, and I love guys with good handwriting). Let's just hope his picture isn't disappointing, haha!!

The sperm will be held at the cryobank until I'm ready to have it sent. (or not sent).

I know this is a HUGE decision, and that being a single mom is NOT easy. But this is something I've wanted for four years, since losing my daughter Autumn. It has only intensified since experiencing another loss, and I truly feel that if I have the means to provide for a child, my marital status should be a non-issue.

Needed to share. AHHH! LOL!

Ladies!! You have all helped ease my mind SO much. I have been a nervous wreck today just thinking about it all. An excited nervous, of course, but reading your comments has made my week Thank you SO much for the support!!

(Just did some calculating based on the "essentials" the baby will need...afraid it may take a wee bit longer than six months LOL. Cause darn it, this kid is gonna have it all; no matter what!!!!)

Hi

This is the first thread I've read in the WTT section (as that's where I have decided I belong now, after a bit of a journey), and it really made me smile (which I needed today) and just gave me an overall positive feeling.

I have to say, medicmama, even though I don't know you, I am proud of you!!

Despite the impulsiveness, you've demonstrated strength, planning, commitment, independence, determination and drive all in that one act.

I think you'll make the right decision in terms of timing, and I think you will be a great mom when the time comes.

Best of luck!!

How exciting! And it doesn't sound impulsive to me at all. You have an excellent plan in place, and you took advantage of a good opportunity that appeared.
