How exciting!

Me and my partner Lewis have decided we're ready to start trying for a baby in the next few months... I came off the pill (yasmin) the first weekend of January 2011 and had a regular period, so it's been 32 days since I came off the pill. I was hoping I'd be lucky and that my periods would go back to normal, but it appears not as there's no sign at all. I started taking folic acid tablets a while ago and take them everyday, I'm a healthy person, eat relatively healthy food (although I do love a good McDonalds every now and again!!) and I don't smoke, and rarely drink. Is there much more I can do to help my chances of falling pregnant?
After reading up on here, I never even realised that falling pregnant could be so demanding. I've never known my ovulation days or when Im most fertile as I've not been ready to conceive and been on the pill, so I guess I'm not as clued up as I thought! Ive been on the pill for about 6 years, so hopefully my body won't take too long to settle back down.
Either way, whenever I fall pregnant, I just know it will be amazing, and I can't wait to go through this incredible journey- not just with my partner, but with people on here in the same boat as me xx

Welcome! Sounds to me like you're doing everything right so far. Depending on when you are planning to start you could be taking folic acid supplements up to three months before you officially start. X

Thanks for your comment!

Well, ideally, we want to wait until my first "normal" period comes so we can get on track with dates etc. So any time after my period arrives, we'll be trying from them on The only problem is; I have not a clue in the world as to when my period will come, it's been 32 days since I came off the pill, so just over 26 days since my last period ended. I've got a lot to read up on to make sure we make the most of my most fertile times, but Im sure the lovely ladies on here will help me understand all that! xx

Welcome to bnb!

As already said it sounds as though you're already doing everything right in order to prepare your body.

When we decided to ttc I'd been on the pill for 12 years and had no idea about my cycles etc as I'd always taken 3 pill packets in a row then have a withdrawal bleed and start again. I came off and we started trying right away as soon as the withdrawal bleed had ended. I had no idea about my cycles and fertile days etc and I didn't want to get stressed out with trying to chart and temp etc as it can take the enjoyment out of it and get you stressed which in turn won't help your chances of falling pregnant, so instead the only thing we did differently was to have sex every other day. I never got my next period as I fell pregnant right away!

My advice would be to try a few months without stressing etc and see where that takes
you!

X

WOW! Congrats MummytoSummer!! I'm so pleased for you!! I don't want to get my own hopes up, but that sounds perfect, I'd love for that to happen to me, but I read somewhere that it was best to wait until your first "normal" period after coming off the pill, which is what me and oh have done. Shame I didnt just go for it!
I've just been searching the forum looking for instructions on how to "chart" and work out my fertile days etc, but I can already feel myself getting frustrated because I still don't understand it all properly, so maybe it'd be a good idea to take your advice and maybe just chill out for a few months, and consider charting my cycle if/when I don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Thanks for your comment, I'm so pleased that it worked out for you xxx

I came off the pill when we ttc Blake and I had a small withdrawel bleed and then I never got another one!! thing is hubby had been working away so we'd only managed bd once and it works out I fell pregnant 2 weeks after coming off the pill( only 8 days after my bleed stopped!)

I would do as the others said, just make it fun for a few months and see how you go - charting/tempting takes the fun out of the situation and can often make it take longer. I just went on the general rule that people ovulate approx day 14 of cycle so made sure we bd'd on that day! and wahey it worked!

Aww geogem, that's amazing!! Im so happy for you!! I don't know why me and my oh didnt just go for it as soon as I came off the pill, silly me read somewhere that it was best not to... obviously its fine!! I dont think Im clued up enough yet to start charting/temping, so I'll leave that for a while and just have fun! xx

that is what I would advise as I have known people that have been so desperate to have a baby and they have charted, temped etc and made sure they bd's constantly and for 3 years they never concieved. They were told by the hospital that they had unexplained infertility and it was probable they wouldnt concieve naturally.

Thing is, they has resigned themselves to not having kids and giving up when she found out she was pregnant, turns out it was the regime of miliatary style ttc that caused stress and actually stopped them concieving, they went on to have 3 kids in 3 years after that!!

so i fully believe fun is the way!! not trying too hard and going with the flow so to speak!
