WTT & The mini pill

Hi Ladies

We are planning when to start TTC number 2 after it took 16 months to get pregnant with our lo - I had issues with cycles & no ovulation after being on the depo jag for 7 years so this time round I am hoping it will be a bit quicker!

I have started taking the mini pill ( cerezet ) but wondered when should I stop taking it, and silly question but do you still ovulate while taking the pill?

I was planning on stopping taking the pill 3 months before we want to start trying to give it time to get out of my system and track my cycles, does that sound about right?

Any advice really appreciated as I have no idea about the pill

I believe that you do not ovulate on the pill but I could be wrong
A lot of people on here have mentioned that they have come off the pill and got BFP straight away!

I think 3 months to get your body back on track after the pill is good

I stopped in October as I was on the pill for 12 years so I wanted to get my body back to being natural and learn what my cycles were doing

You don't usually ovulate on Cerazette- to paraphrase an info sheet:

It primarily works by preventing ovulation. It also acts by increasing the thickness of the natural mucus at the neck of the womb, making it more difficult for sperm to cross from the vagina into the womb. By preventing sperm entering the womb, successful fertilisation of any eggs that are released is less likely. It also acts to change the quality of the womb lining. This prevents the successful implantation of any fertilised eggs onto the wall of the womb, thereby preventing pregnancy.

I was on Micronor (and actually am again now) previously which works in the same way, and didn't have a period while on it (and don't know)- when I came off the last time 10 yrs ago (not to have a baby, but at the end of a relationship), I had a near-constant period for most of the following 6 months, and was put on a different pill to regulate (as it was a pain and it didn't matter as I wasn't TTC). But this doesn't mean you can't conceive during this time...and doesn't mean it'll happen to you (or even to me again!). I was discussing this with my GP recently as it's something I'm concerned about when I want to TTC, and she said you should return to normal-for-you fertility as soon as you come off. I guess it just depends on whether you want to be tracking your cycle- it will make it harder.

Just as a thought...I've also read a few times recently on the web that when you come off the pill, you actually have a fertility boost...not sure how true this is, but perhaps goes along with all those BPFs you read about from people who have just come off (and not even had a cycle off the pill!)

Good luck with it all!

hiya, im on cerazette and have been for about a year and a half, its worked brilliantly for me and i dont get periods at all.

i couldnt have put it better than the way anniepie has stated that cerazette works. but i will warn you that you may 'feel' pregnant when u come off cerazette, it really messes up your body, i came off it a little while ago, and i began to think i was going crazy cause i had every sign of pregnancy but no positive tests and i just physically felt dreadful.

i also agree that about three months should be fine, but i would go with how your body feels, it might take longer to regulate again. if your on a short time frame for TTC id come off it a bit before 3 months just incase x

Hiya, I was on microgynon for 12 years when we decided to ttc so I know it's different to the mini pill but my dr advised to start ttc as soon as I came off the pill as apparently that's when you're most fertile. We did and I fell pregnant first try.
I'm not sure how different the mini pill is though.
