WTT but I think I have LPD

Firstly hello everybody. I'm very new to this site, and also to the WTT phase!

OH and I are planning to TTC after our summer holiday this year. I've already come off the pill as I have read that it can take sometime to get your body back to normal. Since coming off it I've noticed that my cycles are only 23 days long.

After doing some research I decided to chart my cycle to see what's going on and have discovered that I ovulate on Day 14 and then have just a 9 day Luteal Phase, which all the material I've read says is not long enough to conceive, and that if you do it's likely you'll MC.

As I'm not yet TTC I''m worried that if I go to the doctors they'll just tell me to go away and come back after TTC for a year without success. But I would rather spend the next few months trying to get my cycle in order so that when we do start TTC my body is capable of conceiving and carrying a pregnancy.

Should I go to the doctors? If I do should I tell them the truth, or should I pretend I'm already TTC? Dishonest I know, but if it makes them help me then .....

Any advice would be greatly welcomed....

Hiya, I don't know a great deal about all this but didn't want to read and run. I would try not to worry too much about the length of your LP as more often than not it won't affect your ability to conceive and carry a pregnancy. Before I fell pregnant my cycles ranged from 22 days to 46 days and since having my baby they've evened out to around 37 days.

As for going to the doctors I guess there's no harm in getting seen now seeing as it's not too long until you will begin ttc and it'd give you a headstart. One of my friends did what you suggested (fibbing a bit and saying you're already ttc). She had a feeling she had pcos so a different issue but she didn't want to go through a year of trying before they'd been consider doing blood tests etc. So she went and said they'd already been trying for 14 months with no success and they did different blood tests on certain days of her cycle to check for various things including whether she ovulated and the length of her LP. It turned out she didn't have pcos and the doctor said he'd refer her and her oh to a fertility consultant but before her appointment came through she fell pregnant!

Good luck and I hope you get things sorted!

X

If I was you i'd go to the doctors and be honest. Say you have been trying to get to know your cycles just before you actively start trying and you are worried about a short LP and is this something they would be concerned about or is it worth trying to lengthen it (there are a few vitamins and things you can take to make your LP longer).

Let us know how you get on if you do go?!

Mine was 9 days, and I conceived and have a healthy 13 & a half month old daughter! I know they say under 10 days isn't good, but just so you know there is some hope! As it happens I am watching my cycle in preperation to TTC, and my cycle is now nothing like how it was! 26 days last month, and this month I ov'd on cd14, but we'll see how it goes next couple of months!

Thanks for the replies. I've made an appointment for a couple of weeks time, and I think I'm going to take your advice Blaire and be honest with her.

It's lovely to hear some successful pregnancy stories from others with a short LP - congratulations to you both. It's nice to know it's not necessarily impossible to conceive. Winegum I can't believe you're on here with a week old baby, how are you finding the time?! Did the doctor prescribe the B vitamins?
