Hi hun, Congrats on getting married, we get married September this year.

Well, everyone has different pain thresh holds, but I actually found giving birth relativly easy, and my birth was nothing as scary as on OBEM or other baby programmes. I dont know if that has anything to do with my state of mind, and how determined I was to push properly, so I concentrated more on that then any pain i was going through.

I had gestation diabetes, my BMI was 49, so needed an induction at 38 weeks, and I was advised to have an early epidural as I had an increase risk of needing a c-section/assisted delivery. I was gutted at this, as I really wanted to go natural. But I coped well with the pain, and when I got to 6cms I did ask for an epidural as the contractions were getting painful. But the anaesthetist had to go do a c-section and would be back in an hour. So I reluctantly went on gas and air to tie me over until I could get my epidural, but within 20mins of having the gas and air I was ready to push, and with 3 pushes LO was out. I was SO happy I never had the epidural as it enabled me to feel my contractions so I just kept pushing to push the pain away, and thats why it happened so quick.

The worst parts of labour for me were the contractions and the effect the gas and air gives you, I really didnt like it.

Please dont let it scare you, its the fear of the unknown as you have never experienced it so your mind goes into overtime thinking about all that could happen. I love watching OBEM, but they do show the worst type of labours, but then they need to pull in the ratings. I found watching baby programmes a great help as it prepared me for all different situations.

I dont know if ive helped or ive just rambled, but embrace it all, I really do think the type of labour you have depends on how you control yourself. Oh and dont listen to all the scare stories, people always seem to want to tell them, but never any positive ones.

Congrats on the wedding thats so close, hope the planning is goin well hun!
Thank you for your reply, sounds like you coped really well during labour hope i can do the same. I suffer from anxiety anyway and you are so right when you say about the mind goes into overtime, so true! I just think of all the worst scenarios and concentrate on them instead of the good.
I am so excited to actually become a mum and have our own little family i need to train myself to concentrate on that.
I never thought about them showing the worst one's to boost the ratings either, thanks hun that somehow puts my mind at ease a little
