Lent

Is anyone giving anything up for Lent?

I have decided to give up chocolate, and just generally be healthier. I would like to lose 21lbs in the 6 weeks. It might sound alot but I'm approx 6 stones overweight. I'm hoping by end of August to have lost 49 lbs. In my 1st pregnancy with my dd - I lost 19lb through morning sickness, and have never regained that weight so I may lose some weight in the first trimester again! Lol!

April Showers! I quit smoking 4 years ago! I love hearing of people trying to do this because I feel so much healthier for having done so! I used patches, and then the lozenges when the cravings hit! I followed the programme for the full 12 weeks, and I have never cheated, nor slipped up! Other than my fantastic marriage, and my beautful daughter it is my proudest moment! Lol! I saved all my money and we have an extra holiday each year on it!

Good luck!

I'm just dreading having awful withdrawal symptoms but I certainly will be glad to be saving the money as they cost a fortune everyday plus I'm prone to bronchitus since I started smoking. I really will try. I have my last pack now and won't be renewing in the morning.

I am not sure this year. But 2 years ago I gave up 'fear and guilt'. It changed my life.

Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of taking risks. And the guilt associated with looking inside myself and doing things for me, and me alone.

I realized I wasn't in love with my ex, and subsequently ended a 5 year relationship a few months later. I took swimming lessons and was finally able to jump in the deep end of the pool, unassisted and got up all on my own. No fear!

I didn't feel guilty for breaking up with him. I'm with a great OH now. I couldn't be happier!

Good luck ladies!

Much Love

I've given up chocolate and alcohol and striving for a healthier life- can't wait. OH has also agreed to do the same. He's never done lent before so should be interesting. Will be so much easier us both doing it together.

Tsyhanochka- I love your story. I'm one big scaredy cat when it comes to risk and doing what I want/believe etc, so perhaps I should try that too- I'm too scared to quit my job I hate, too scared to put my all into my own business I love, too scared to make OH give me answers re marriage and children and timings... As such I'm 32 unhappy and no idea where my life's going...!

I haven't given giving up anything for lent much thought... I'll have to get to thinking on that soon. I don't know if there's much of anything I could give up- I already stopped drinking pop and replaced that with water. I'm now cooking and eating more meals at home than eating out. I've been exercising a few times a week... I don't know what more I could give up yet that is a bad habit of mine...

I'm going to try try really hard to follow the Lent calendar which takes seven of the last sayings of Jesus from the cross as inspiration for reflection and preparation. I help out in my church Sunday School and the kids are following it.

This week's theme is forgiveness. Thursday: Do I need to seek forgiveness from anyone for anything? Friday: I need to be peacefull all day, no negative words or actions! Saturday: Make friends with anyone i've fallen out with - forgive as Jesus forgives!

I've decided to give up my debit card. Cash only for 6 weeks. Need to watch my random spending more closely in order to save more for my house. This is a huge sacrifice for me as my bank's closest branch is far far away so using debit is always the easiest choice of payment!
