Weekly costs?

I know we have a post on average costs for essentials for LO but how much are you budgeting weekly? I plan on breast feeding and using washable nappies, but no idea how much other things would cost weekly like baby wipes? any ideas? (just putting together everything for baby fund)

Ok wipes, baby powder, sudacream, baby lotion, baby soap, and the list goes on. I think about 20,00 a week for this type of stuff would be enough. Are you really going to use cloth nappies? I didn't think they existed anymore. I've never seen them in any baby shop. Maybe I was just looking in the wrong place. I used to be a nanny in NY years ago and the family used face cloths instead of wipes. I used to wish that they would use wipes because they were just handier. I won't be breastfeeding and have no idea how much formula costs here in Germany. I must check it all out.

Id actually say they are becoming alot more popular. The nursery i work in uses them on all the children. If you look in the other formums alot of people use them. I was quite suprised how many teen/young mums use them. I defo will be especially as you can get really soft ones these days for their little bottoms and also the variety of nappies you can now get and the wraps with all the funky deisgns. I deffinatly prefer them but thats just me xx

Re-usable nappies are very popular now, google it, there are a wide range of types. The outlay initially is about 150-200 pounds but you save much more than that over the course of nappy use!

With regard to nappies, wipes, formula etc, I would say, per week:
Disposable nappies (approx 70 per week initially) - 10.00
Formula (approx 1 tin per week): 8.00
Wipes (2 packs): 3.00
Total: 21.00

I don't really think babies 'running' costs are all that high, its the bumpf you have to buy initially.

hth?

Nappies about 60-70 a week ish. It really depends what brand you use. Ive found Boots own brand to be the best for us so that would be roughly 7 a week. 10 if youre using other brands.

Wipes about 2 packs a week. Again i found Boots own to be best for us. 2 a week. 4 a week for other brands.

Formula 1 tin a week for the beginning. 8-10 depending on brand.

Personally i combination feed so 1 tin of formula will last about a month and thats using about 1-2 bottles a day.

Clothes id say definitely go second hand. Erins haven't lasted 5 minutes the rate her feet have been growing! Clothes can definitely be as expensive as you make them be.

Also every parent in the UK is entitled to 20 a week child benefit for their first child (i think its 13 something each for any more children) and that pretty much covers day to day costs.

Extra washing detergent! I found i do waaay more washing and its all Erins.

I use reusable nappies which cost 200 initially and do one extra wash every 4 days.

Wipes I buy in bulk usually at asda baby event 12 packs for 9 tbh I think they last me a couple of months.

It's worth thinking about breast pads as I spend a fortune on these got through 2 packs a week so 4 a week ( I stocked up when on offer though)

Sudacrem and baby toiletries prob a 5 and will last for a few months.

Initially I don't think babies cost that much at all especially if you are bf but you can male it as expensive as you want I think it's the clothes toys etc that bumps the price up especially if you are a bit of a shopaholic

Huggies nappies - 10 ( or 2 for 18 ) for a box / Asda little angels nappies - 7 for 74 me thinks?
Asda wipes - 4 packs for 3
Aptamil - 9ish
Baby Jars - 10 for 6

^ ^ ^ Thats the 4 things I buy weekly

Everything else lasts longer ie ... shampoo, cream, baby bath ..
A tip would be to try different brands - the most popular brands aren't always the best. Pampers sensitive wipes brought my wee girls bum out in a rash!

To be honest I think the weekly cost of having a baby just gets absobed into your weekly shop not different really to having to absorb the cost of having 2 dogs I think it is just something that happens!

You can get great deals on stuff in your supermarkets and stuff I mean only this week in Morrison's they had Johnsons no more tears baby wipes on offer for a 1!!

I think our main spend out it going to be the big stuff and bumf at the beginning but I am hoping we can spread that cost out over the 9mths and TTC time

You can find offers and deals on a lot of stuff, but I would say you should aim to put aside 1.50 per pack of wipes, 9 per pack of disposable nappies, 9 per tub of formula.

I know you say you will BF and use terry nappies, but sometimes, no matter our intentions, things don't work out (I intended the same as you, and I never managed to carry it through), so I would just suggest you prepare for the most expensive scenario, then you won't be caught short.

But for the first year the only thing you need on a weekly basis, for an average baby is formula, nappies, wipes, and when they're weaning you will need food (if you don't plan to make purees yourself). Everything else is ad hoc (when needed), or not needed at all but more of a luxury.
