Advice

Hi Everyone,
I have a BMI of 41. I decided last September to loose weight so I could start a family. My BMI was 49 when I started and I have lost over 3 stone so I'm really happy about that but as the days go by I get more and more broody. I don't smoke or drink and exercise regularly. I am a typical pear shape and carry very llittle weight up top, it's all around my hips and legs. I wanted to get to a BMI of under 35 before I started trying but I am desperate for a baby and have always eaten very healthily - I love my fruit and veg so my diet is good. I'm overweight because I have been a binge eater since I was about 13 but have stopped doing all that now and am on the right track. I also have an underactive thyroid glad and worry this may cause problems getting pregnant althougth I am on thyroxine and have been for over ten years. So do I wait and get more weight off or just go for it, who knows when I might fall and all I seem to do is dream about having a baby and being a mum. I had set a goal of loosing as much as I can before September and then start trying but it seems so far off. Size wise I am a 14/16 on top and a 24/26 on the bottom.
Thanks for listening and any advice you can give.
Bex x

Hi,

Well done for losing 3 stone!! You are going in the right direction and seem to know what you are doing. Im waiting until Sept too and i think it will be here before we know it! If I were you, id keep going until Sept and then go for TTC.

Good luck with whatever you decide xxx

Hi Bextas

Firstly, well done on the first 3 stone- that's really good! It's great that you've got a reason to want to shift the weight- I think probably having that special goal of wanting a baby will be a real drive for you.

Can I ask what steps you're taking to lose the weight?

I've also suffered with binge eating in the past and it's the thing that kicks in when I'm unhappy. I've never had a weight problem- very lucky in that I never seem to put it on, but I do know what it's like to be a binge eater...I would quite easily eat 3 packets of biscuits in one go when I'm unhappy... It's a really hard thing to break away from...

While I've not had to shift weight myself, I've done various courses in health and fitness, and my mum always struggled with her weight, so may be able to offer some advice...

Good luck with it all

x

I started off going to curves gym 4 times a week and just eating 1500 calories a day which I stick to. I now exercise 3 to 4 times a week and never go over 1,750 calories a day and I eat every few hours it seems to work for me just got to keep going and get as much off as I can.

Well done on the 3 stone weight loss, keep it up your are doing fantastically especially as you have underactive thyroid on top of that as well, my Mum, Aunt, Uncle & Nan all have it and I know they all struggle with weight because of it so for you to do so well is fantastic

I know September feels so far away but it will be here in no time and if you can hold off TTC until then and get your body as prepared as it can be it will all be worth it and with that to look forward too then it will make it easier and time will go quicker too

Good luck with whatever you choose x

That's really great Bex...keep it up if you can- you'll feel so great for doing so, and if it can help you with TTC, all the better... x

Hi
well done on your weight loss so far....
the more weight you can lose before TTC, the better and the more healthy your pregnacy will be.

Obesity increases the risk of pre eclampsia, gestational diabetes, DVT etc
Also the more weight you lose, the easier it will be to fall pregnant!!

so , my advice would be to wait till september and continue with the great work!!
In the grand scheme of life, a few months is nothing
xxx

Have you checked with your general practitioner to see what he or she says? You might get good advice from a doctor on this one, if you have one you trust.

Amazing work so far!

That's a cracking weight loss hin! You'll have done yourself so much good loosing that weight! My BMI was 37 when I got pg and my pregnancy was ok until the end where I retained 4 stone of fluid, which made everything difficult! I ended up having a csection also, but I think this was cos I was induced for pre eclampsia and my baby just wasn't ready to be born!

I didn't find my treatment any worse because Iw as big, and managed to lose 1 & a half stone during my pregnancy just by eating healthy etc.

If I was in your shoes, I think I would set myself a date, say 3 months from today, and do everything right in that time, and aim to lose as much as possible and then TTC. It might take a few months so you can continue to lose weight, and your BMI could well be under 35 by the time you fall!

Good luck with it all!
