Getting healthy

Hello! My hubby and I can't start ttc again until March 2012 (After he gets home from Afghanistan). I have been taking prenatals for a long time, just the ones from Walmart. I am also trying to lose some weight.
How soon should we get him on a multivitamin before ttc? A couple months? A year?
Also, we both smoke, but plan on quitting very soon. So we should be smoke free at least 6 months before ttc.
What else would you recommend doing a year before ttc? I just want us both to be healthy(er) by next year and any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi! I'm a personal trainer and specialized in both pre and post natal. I would def. start an exercise program that you will be able to maintain until your are pregnant and while you are pregnant. Doing both cardio and total body strength training. You will want to make sure your back both upper and lower and abs are very strong. I would also quit smoking as soon as you can, and start limiting caffiene a few months before you try. Also, nutrition is super important. You will want to make sure you are getting in lots of vegetables, fruits, lean proteins and whole grains. Don't forget you also need plenty of sleep and ways to keep stress very low! I hope this helps!

Awesome! I have a whole year to work on this so I think I'll start slow. My husband and I have a bet. I want to lose all the weight I gained during our marriage (20lbs) and I want to be able to go for a 4 mile run with him when he gets home next March. Smoking has GOT TO GO lol. And I don't drink caffeine =] I'm buying that cookbook "Cook Yourself Thin". Is that good? But exercise is going to be soo hard for me to stick to. Any tips on actually sticking to an exercise program?

My dh never took any vitamins at all, and all I took was folic acid for 3 months before we started TTC. I gave up smoking about 18 months before we TTC, and since getting pg have never been tempted either.
